Where in New York will you be living? I'm not a nurse, but I notice your local office is listed as Buffalo, which is where I live and I have a few cousins that are nurses and could ask on your behalf for more info.

Hi

I've been trying to explore nursing in Tennessee and organising things myself, as most of the agencies don't have any options for there. Also, being mental health trained (and a guy) with 25 yrs experience doesn't help much. You need to have a generalised education, including adult, Paeds, Mental Health and Community/public health. I've been going round and round in circles trying to organise things by email and telephone, having made some contacts on my last visit there.

I've gone as far as having my transcripts sent over by the NMC to the university so that I can get some idea of what additional training I would need to do, but get sent back to the Tennessee board of nursing at every point - who just reiterate that I need a generalised education etc.

so, my advice would be, if you can use an agency to help with the NCLEX etc, go with that option - its seems to smooth things along somewhat. The international department at the NMC and RCN can be a good source of advice too.

Good luck with the process

Cheers

Andy
