this is really hard for me to type so i'll make it brief...
i went over the paperwork COUNTLESS times with my fiance about making sure everything was filled out perfectly, making sure we had each document necessary and it was the updated forms, photos, emails, conversations, phone bills, plane tickets, etc.
i've read disappointing stories here on vj about being sent the outdated form and when the person showed up at the interview, they were turned away because it wasn't up to date!
well i had the OPPOSITE interview. my fiance brought in the DS156 that was the newest 2007 version you can get off their website. apparently they wanted the OLD VERSION from 2004 that is expired and they made my fiance leave. instead of letting him hand in a new form that would take less than 5 minutes to complete, they handed him a form and made him leave.
so now we have to reschedule a new interview for who knows when the fukc it will be.
i'm crushed. i tried to do the right thing. checked everything 1000000000x and this is what i get.
so i think i'm leaving ny. i was waiting here thinking he would be here within a few weeks, but now it looks like that is NOT going to happen. thanks for all the support last night and those who called/PMed me. i appreciate it.

OMG that's crazy !! So they didn't even do the interview.... just gave him the older form and told him "laterz... you need to reschedule" ???? Dayum... I would think they would go ahead with the interview and just issue a 221g for the missing document. Which form did they send in his packet -- the older one ?
Anyway.... aw hellz. Sorry to hear you'll face an additional delay -- that totally blows. Hope you can get a new date soon.

So sorry Jen,
this is really ridiculous. Sometimes i think they are looking for any stupid pitty reasons to send a person home. I am sure everything will be OK......did they tell him when to come back to bring "old" forms? that's just insane

My fiance's interview is tomorrow and i am already freaking out although i know he will get his 221-g for sure since his police report did not arrive to embassy yet.

Wow it's funny you mention the delay in the police certificate. We had that, too -- it took forEVER for the consulate to confirm receiving it -- like 5 weeks. (Not to scare you -- it was also during a major holiday season, and the consulate was closed like half the month -- that made it even slower.) Considering they send this report ELECTRONICALLY, there's really no excuse for it taking so long. I called every week and got the same story, until finally I got this helpful lady who actually went and looked -- I could hear her rummaging around on someone's desk or something -- and then she said "Oh. We have it."
But the good news is, if all else is in order, they'll issue as soon as they get the paperwork. Good luck tomorrow !

well apparently he had most of the interview before they asked for this paper. she said if he would have had it, it would have been a success. but, yeah, they just told him to get out. he tried to fill out the paperwork right there and they said NO! you have you just come back! your turn is over! why do a whole interview, the man is sitting in FRONT OF YOU, then make him come back who knows when the hell when? more work for everyone! its retarded beyond belief. i feel sick to my stomach.

sorry to hear about that Jen. good luck on getting a speedy 2nd intervew date. we had a total of 3 interview dates (one of which the consulate was CLOSED for a local holiday and the CO was wrong on the date) a 4 hour flight to the consulate was wasted. I can empathize with the frustration.

I'm really sorry to hear this, Jen. The only version of the DS 156 that I can even find online is the version that expires 9/30/07. Is this the one you used? It even says previous versions are not acceptable. I wonder which version patiently_waiting's fiance brought. I would have done the exact same thing as you did...why on earth would one think it would be ok to bring an *expired* form????

Sorry

... I should have specified "5 weeks from the date of *request*" before it was "officially received" by the Consulate. Also Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur (AND Columbus Day) fell during this time, so they were on vacation half the month. They didn't tell us in the packet to get an Israeli certificate -- just one from every place he'd lived for more than 6 months. So it never occurred to us to get an Israeli one, because Mahmoud never lived in Israel. We found out at the interview that he needed it -- grrrr. (Since then, they have changed the instructions to be more specific.)
Yes, he processed through Jerusalem. The staff there is very nice. Best of luck with TA !

I think you're good to go -- no consulate holidays on the horizon until the 4th of July. So they should be nose-to-the-grindstone at their desks ! I bet they'll have it in the system very soon.

This happened in Algeria too when they were switching over to the new affidavit of support forms... i was hearing that consualtes were only accepting new versions of the form, but the CO in Algeria wanted to old form. Luckily i sent both cause they took the old form, but they just all work in their own little bubble over there, i dont think they really care what the rest of the world is doing... however, i am SHOCKED that he wasn't just given a 221g like everyone said and am sorry that you're going to have to wait longer....

DUH it takes 2 minutes to write the form! we still haven't received another response after that.

This just shows some of the things i was TRYING to say about Casa, there is no reason for half the stuff they do and you guys didnt seem to understand what i was saying, now maybe you can see...the people there (some) are rude and unhelpful, when they say that you are thru they mean just that you are thru. When they say they have seen enough, thats its, no explanations etc.....no explanations of returns....no answers when you try to find out....half way thru a year you would think the 07 form would be the required. If they sent the outdated form they were wrong and the rest of the world is using the up to date one...something very wrong here in this embassy..so i guess take the one they sent and the computer on just to be safe for everyone...

well yeah, it would be different if someone brought the forms sent to them by the consulate and was turned away. those are two completely different scenarios. where are you going with this? what does one have to do with the other? one's a stupid choice and one is based on common sense.
the incompetency of casa is neither here nor there. following their directions, at least if something goes wrong you have a leg to stand on. here that's not the case.

and if some random person posted on VJ that consulates were telling benificiaries that they had to jump off bridges before they would be issued visas, does that mean you would tell your genius boyfriend to head for oued skhirat? you don't know anything about the circumstances involved with other people's situations, just based on what they post here. and for that matter, if something's happened in manila, it doesn't necessarily pertain to you. to follow " i've read countless times about people bringing in forms that were expired and being turned away THEN." over following the directions and papers mailed by the actual consulate you are going through is well...silly.
