We're in the same boat as you the rest of you. Waited almost 3 weeks, went into the SSA office and James wasn't in the system. The woman said she HAD to send it off for verification so we are waiting. The was late Feb. I'll let you know if he ever gets a SSN!
Intrmuros- how did you get all those things sans SSN? I know there are ways around some of it, but the license is what we are really worried about... we went to the RMV and they did not care about our story one bit!
hi j&js,
i am presuming that RMV is the department of motor vehicle ? if i presumed right, there are specs
per local DMV. before they gave me the written and practical test, they asked for my I-94, drivers
license in the philippines, had to show them my visa , proof of local residency ( gave them the
lease agreement of the apartment with my name included and signed by the landlord ) and proof of
health insurance. james ( my sweetie

) and i weren't married yet, so no marriage license and
it wasn't in the list of their requirements anyway. the license was valid till my I-94 expired
but they told me though that i could renew it if i show proof of AOS. so 2 weeks before expiration
i showed them all my NOAs and they renewed the license for another 180 days. so i have till june
of this year. again, i was told that if i get my ead and ssn they will give me the regular driver's
license which has i think is renewable every 2 years.
bank accounts, marriage license and car insurance - you don't need ssn for these things.
try to get a hold of a local manual, they do contain the requirements. i was just glad that the guys in
the local office here were so helpful, like they accepted my health insurance from home (thank God
it was still valid at the time that i applied )
i do hope this will help you . i don't know if i remember right but in the old forum there was one
who went to another office and got the license . can't really remember the whole story now, it's
been a long time.
oh and do call the SS office at least once a week. i called the DHS 800 number too last week. but
that's another story(headache). i do pray for a light at the end of the tunnel, i'll pray for you and
james' too.
