Dear all,

Does anyone have any good suggestions/cost approximations for Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability and Life Insurance cover?

As I’m the main breadwinner in the house and any illness or injury would have big repercussions on our cashflow/ability to pay the mortgage, I really should look at cover but it all seems very expensive.

Any ideas/suggestions would be welcome.

TIA,

Mark

Short term is usall paid by the Employer

Long term, plenty of sources a google will find, better obviously if it comes as a part of a benefit package.

Usually you ae looking at a deferment period of 6 months.

Life, ots of sources for on line quotes, also you may find that you can get a good deal from your auto/home insurer. Most like to sell cross class and give discounts of auto/home if you have life with them. So if the life element is small, the savings elsewhere can make a big difference.

Do not forget the other half, what would you do if anything happened there.

Hi, there,

Alas, my employer does not provide short-term disability. They provide the basic FMLA minimum of six paid sick days per year, which is something. However, there is no ST disability.

I've tried to look at AFLAC as I like their commericals. However, their web site tells me to contact them for a quote, something I'm not keen on doing just yet.

Life insurance with the insurers is a good idea. I'll check in all of this whenever I get a decent amount of time to myself. Thanks for all your help, everyone.

I have a life insurance policy from Liberty Life - I pay $6 a month for it. I also have one through my employer at no cost to me. If I die, my husband will get about $70,000 total laughing.gif
