Hello everyone!

I couldnt find where to post this, so feel free to move it, admins!

I allready emailed the consulate about my question, but it didnt answer all of it, so i was hoping someone here could shine there light over it.

When we got married i immediately filled out my husbands last name everywhere, cos i wanted to carry his name (on the license, and immigration papers so far).
Now im busy officialy announcing my marriage in Holland (taking some time because i need special stamps and everything). I was told i cannot change my name on my passport, just put an addition to it, so de Vries-Hamilton. This also costs 100 euros.

Because to the Uscis im allready known as Eva Hamilton, i'm afraid it might get a problem if in Holland and on the passport i'm officially known as Eva de Vries (-Hamilton).
So i'm really confused what i should do now...
Anyone who can help me clear this out?

Thanks so much in advance!
Erica
Eva,

I emailed the consulate in Amsterdam with the same question yesterday. They told me (replied in 45 minutes! Woo!) that it isn't necessary to have a new passport in my married name as long as it's still valid for 8 months at the time of the interview.
Hope that helps smile.gif

I have a hard time believing you can't change the name on your passport. It's YOUR choice to take on the name of your husband, isn't it? Odd.

evahamilton,

My wife's passport (and all of her other home-country documentation) remains in her maiden name, while all of her immigration paperwork and US documentation is in my surname. She's an LPR at this point, removal of conditions pending. It's never been an issue.
