Hi Guys,

My wife received packet #3 from the Embassy (Guyana) a few days ago. I wanted to see what they sent her so she scanned the forms and email it to me. According to the cover sheet, she has to complete 1 form and send it back (to the embassy) before an appointment date is given

However, I think the embassy made a mistake. According to the packet, my wife has to complete DS-230 and send it in. DS-230? The embassy should be processing a K3 Visa for her, a Non-Immigrant Visa. Why are they asking for DS-230? I thought DS-230 is used for IR/CR-1 Visa.

Can you please clarify this for me before I email the Embassy?

FYI:
* Both I-130 & K3 were approved By USCIS on the same day. K3 was sent to NVC. NVC forwarded K3 to Guyana. As far as I’m aware, the Embassy is processing the K3 – I made no request to process the I-130.

Thank you very much

It's required by the Mumbai consulate as well. K3 is visitor but you change status once you get here to permanent resident.

So some consulate do require DS-230?

All Consulates require DS-230 for K3 as well as 2 copies of DS-156

I think they require only Part 1 completed

Is unsigned Part II required at interview?

vikasp,

At some consulates, but not all. The I-485 used for adjustment of status covers the same issues as DS-230-II covers for immigrant visa applicants.

For my K3 I had to turn in DS 230 Part I only, part II was not needed as far as I recall.

From what I have heard and read here when both the I-129F and I-130 are approved on the same day then they will proceed with the K-3 process. My husband also recieved the k-3 visa packet which also included a DS-230 for him to fill out. some embassy would like for you to mail in the packet after you have completed filling it out and others as in my husband's case would like for you to bring it in with him on the day of interview.
