Hello All,

I'm a bit confused about the advance parole I-131 application
on page 3 of the I-131 form it states you may seek advanced parole:
1.You may apply if you have an adjustment of status application pending and you seek to travel abroad for emergent personal or bona fide business reasons.

question-->you can only leave the country and re-enter for these two reasons?

also under evidence of eligibility it states
if you are in the united states, you must attach:
a)a copy of any document issued to you by the USCIS showing your present status in the United States; and
b)an explanation or other evidence showing the circumstances that warrant issuance of an advance parole document: or
c)if you are an applicant for adujustment of status, a copy of the USCIS receipt as evidence that you filed the adjustment application

question--> so if i choose a and c(in the above conditions) how can i file for advanced parole at the same time as adjustment of status, if i need to submit an USCIS receipt along with the original applications

some help regarding this would be greatly appreciated. basically i need advanced parole for my fiance for non-emergent or non-business reasons and want to obtain these documents asap and so want to submit them with my adjustment of status paperwork. thanks

When you file for AOS and include your AP application, c) is implicitly covered. Nothing for you to provide there. We did this for my wife without any problems at all.

Regarding the reasons for getting AP, we included a brief letter indicating that my wife's mother was ill and aging. That was good enough for USCIS and the AP documents were issued. I believe that they took about 2 months to arrive after submission.

thanks for getting back to me, i really appreciate it. once you received your advance parole document, was that good for multiple re-entries into the united states until you received your green card?

Yes it was.

That's the same question I wanted to ask. Once you get Advanced Parole completed, is it for multiple re-entries. My fiance's mother is also aging and he may need to travel back to France to take care of her, etc. Also, I want to accompany a group of students on an exchange trip in March of 2008 and I would like him to be able to travel with us. So when you apply, you do not have to state specific dates for traveling, just a letter stating the possible reason for needing the document? Once received is is a paper document, something attached to visa? How does it work, what does it look like?

If I remember correctly there's a spot to indicate that you want multiple entry. It's been a while since we filed, but we had multiple entry on my husband's AP. As a matter of fact, we were mailed two copies of the AP document.

Part 7, question 1 of the I-131 allows you to specify multiple entries.

You don't need to specify the dates of travel.

You will get 2 copies of the document. My understanding is that you must carry both copies with you when you leave the country. When you return, one copy will be kept by Border Patrol and you keep the other. My wife didn't have to use hers as it turns out, so I don't know if this is exactly what happens.

Yes. But between them those two reasons cover virtually everything one could reasonably think of.

Upon my return to the U.S. they stamped my AP and returned all copies to me.

You can say that you want your AP for any emergency travel that might rise in the future while waiting AOS.

And I’d recommend checking the multiple entries box, that way you get more bang for your buck.

When you leave the country you have to turn in your I-94 (make copies of it though) as you will be getting a new one when you return. You will receive two original AP documents take them both with you, when you return, show them to the immigrations officer at the airport and he will send you to secondary inspection (something to do with the correct stamps or something), they will stamp and sign both AP and you should receive one back.

If you’re going to travel again and you still have not received AOS you can use that signed AP to come back to the country.
