I don't know...the way I understand it is that though the fee increase is pretty severe, we're better off for it than under the old system.

im not so happy about the fee increases either. however thats how its going to be so we have to suck it up and deal with it. and on my student budget an increase is a great deal. many ppl are ok with fees and many organizations take advantage of this atitude of well i have to pay this fee also. IE: http://www.rd.com/content/dont-pay-these-new-hidden-fees/we don't mind paying extra fees due to the mentality of well i have to pay it.

I am sorry, but I do not see how the heck these fees are jusified. If you take into consideration that in order to sponsor/petition a relative you need to earn a mere 125% of the Federal Poverty Guideline, and many people struggle at that. My husband will need to remove his conditional LPR status in a few months, and although we are fortunate enough to be able to pay this amount, I am going to feel it in my account that month. There will be no guarantee's that any of the services USCIS will be providing will improve. Even if operations were to improve, how do they plan on replacing the entire incompetent workforce! Sorry if this is a rant, but I have personally experienced nothing short of hell with each USCIS experience.

If they want to create revenue, USCIS should wait until the immigration reform bill, if or when it comes to pass and then stick it to all of those that may be "forgiven" for being here illegally. There is no justification for being here illegally, but if they are getting forgiveness anyway, put a "big ticket" on it. Ok, I am done now!

Brazilitaliana,

Just out of curiosity - how much did you pay for you last TV set?

Wow! so let me get this straight...next year, when I have to remove conditions on my GC, I'll have to pay $545? that's insane!!!

Yodrak,

I didn't understand your question...are you criticizing me for thinking that $545 is a lot of money? for your info, the last (and brand new) TV set I bought cost only around $150, but not in this country.

Brazilitaliana

What does buying a TV have to do with wanting to marry someone from a different country and bring them to the U.S.?

The cost of the process has nothing to do with how much I love and value (if priceless is a value) my future wife.

I don't think people are out of line when they complain that the government is taking even more of our money. I think they get quite enough of it already and are not what I would consider very frugal with it.

From $170 to $455????

Wow inflation is really sucking. mellow.gif
Yes, and look at the new AOS fee. You can kiss a Grand goodbye there.

I don't want to get into the politics of fee increases, but each recent increase has come with a goal of a quicker and more streamlined process, but the process tends to get slower.
The "poly ticks" of fee increases are rather simple actually--this is a "safe" avenue for sucking blood (money) for federal budget.

I was just crunching some numbers and realized that the new fee for AOS is really not that unreasonable considering that it now includes the EAD and the AP. If you add it up, the fee for AOS (including biometrics) was $395, add new EAD fee of $340 and AP fee of $305 and that comes to $1040. So you are actually saving $30! I guess this doesn't really impress anyone who doesn't want the EAD or AP, but for me, since I will be applying for both, it's actually a bonus. star_smile.gif

OK, so for those people filing AOS after the deadling (August in my case), are the below fees correct?

1. G-325a - no fee
2. I-864 - no fee
3. I-485 - $1010
4. I-765 (we want this) - no fee; included in I-485
5. I-131 (we want this) - no fee; included in I-485

TOTAL: $1010

Did I make any mistakes? Please advise. Thanks.

Just as a point of clarification, the $1010 includes biometrics as well. Typically biometrics are counted separately.

Was there any changes to the cost of interviews and medical exams?
I dont see anything about a change in the costs but wanted to make sure.
Dan&Tiffany
I'm pretty sure the interview and medical are dependent on your specific embassy. Check on the subforum for your embassy to see what the fees there are!

I know the UK medical fee went up recently, but I'm not sure if most/all of the embassies saw an increase in that fee.

Those things are not done by USCIS, so shouldn't be included in USCIS fee hikes.

All I can hope for is that the fees won't go up again next year, before I file to lift conditions. ohmy.gif
Jason-Sasha
Yikes! I really hope these prices don't go up again anytime soon. That IS huge. blink.gif
