Greetings to everyone! I must say, today is my first day to delve into the extreme monotony of the endless sea of paperwork and red tape to get my man over the pond! I suppose the bureacracy is to ensure you really love the guy huh??? I mean...he HAS to be worth all the microscopy and documentation. It's nice to see this forum here for support....we are not alone in our frustration and confusion. I'm sure I'll be checking in for advice and encouragement. Cheers!

Where in TX are you from? I'm a Dallas girl myself.

OHH another Texas+UK Couple!

I'm a Corpus Girl in love with a Yorkshireman myself luv.gif

Welcome to VJ!

It is uncanny how those British men are attracted to Texas girls...is it because they think we talk funny??? *smirk* It took a few months before I could understand the Newcastle Geordiespeak....we had to go online and type together the first few times! LOL!
homesick_american
I don't talk funny, I talk normally. Everybody outside of Texas talks funny, though.

Naw, seriously; I don't really have a strong Texas twang, though I can turn it off completely or crank it up to the point where my husband can't understand me, as the situation warrants. If you're stopped at a gas station in rural Texas making small talk with the guy at the register, a strong accent is called for. Job interview in Dallas, dial back on the accent or lose it completely.

The Texas gals know what I'm talkin' about. good.gif secret7vf.gif

Hello and welcome!
kisschick1976
I've noticed that my accent will change depending on company. I normally don't have an accent other than a generic, non-discript American accent. Not only am I from Texas but I am Hispanic as well so I will either speak Texan or a little Tex-mex. I have caught Jonny saying 'Ya'll' and he admited to me the other day that he started using some of the Spanish words I use for things I can't ever remember what to call them in English like Cumin = Comino laughing.gif "Babe, where do you keep your comino?" "My what now?" "Comino... little seed spice thing that looks like fingernail clippings." laughing.gif "CUMIN!"

What's cute is, his accent changes also! There's the accent with a slight hint of Yorkshire for when he talks to me, and then the thick Yorkshire accent he uses when he talks to everyone else laughing.gif

I admit, I do talk with a drawl especially when i'm tired. But i've acquired a few 'Britishisms' from spending so much time over there....it's funny to hear me combine them. What's REALLY funny though is the Geordie slang with a texas twang. 'Hadaway y'all!'. Peter was here for three months I nearly had him converted to Texan, then he had to go back. I'm back to not knowing what he's saying and making him type it. ohhh and thank heaven for msn and yahoo chats!!! Anyone try skype? I just wonder if that's any better than msn or yahoo. Right now we do video cam on msn and phone on yahoo because they don't work well on the same system for us. He'll be here June 27th for a month long visit. We'll be collecting our 'evidence' while he's here! kicking.gif

We should definitely be in D by then; why don't we meet up?
GeordieLover
Sounds like fun to me....We'll be in Colorado for the fourth of July (last year I made Peter wear an old navy flag shirt to watch fireworks as we celebrated independence from HIS country..oh how I love ironies!), but we could work in some time for sure!
I've already started on my I-129F form, I've even got some of the 'stuff' together to send with it. I don't even think I'll need a lawyer.....I'm SO excited! star_smile.gif star_smile.gif star_smile.gif

Lawyer? Hehehehe...you won't need a lawyer unless your fiance has a criminal record or he has had previous visa issues...or even a serious medical condition, in which case you may need to file a waiver. In any other case, lawyers usually end up wasting a hell of a lot of time and costing you a hell of a lot of money. Trust the people here; they give good advice and it's 100% free.

If he's squeaky clean, he should sail through. good.gif

He's SQUEAKY clean! I'm looking forward to getting this done! woohoo! good.gif

SUNLUN til I die! wink.gif

Ok footy rivalry aside, I always loved shopping in Newcy...I'd take the metro there at least twice a month & hang out around Eldon Square (outside, not in, lol) man I miss Karen Millen!

Nowt like the NE...

Welcome!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Lisa.....I love the Toon Army of course, but I haven't had the pleasure of shopping yet in the Toon. Perhaps next time I'm there I'll check it out! I've just been immersed in football. It's amazing how passionate the northerners get over that stuff. The funny thing is...Peter can't stand football! Perhaps I'll have to find friends (even if they're for Sunderland) to go to games with me....SIGH.

Hahaha, my husband doesn't like football either. He's from Warwickshire originally (we live in north Yorkshire) but one of his grandfathers was a Geordie. good.gif

He's the sports widow(er) in our house; he has to sit there and read a book when I'm watching tennis or American football. The 2005 University of Texas season was pretty rough for him, as I was constantly disturbing him by jumping up and down and singing 'Texas Fight' at the top of my lungs every time we scored a touchdown. In fact I'm wearing my UT national champions t-shirt as I type this. Occasionally he'd look up and say "what's an interception?" or "what does first and ten mean?" I got him a copy of Football for Dummies for Christmas. whistling.gif

Hey...slightly off the topic of sports, have you heard anything about any other UK shops in Dallas? There used to be one on lower Greenville but apparently it's closed now. My poor husband is wondering where he'll get his HP Sauce and Cadbury's chocolate. unsure.gif

toon army *spit spit* oh do I have a many chant for you

A true Black Cat supporter wouldn't ever go to see the mags play, specially at St James'....unless we're playin them...Trust me, it's a strange dynamic that will never change. David is a HUGE footy supporter, and while I usually don't care to watch any sports, once I went into the Stadium of Light, I was hooked for life. Now that he's moving here, I urged him to go to as many matches as poss...and he's even traveled with his friends to watch the Sunderland away games. Good thing we got promoted this year so next year he can watch them here on tv.

No shopping in Newcy tho?? That's blasphemy!

Homesick: I root for UT as well, and I'm a true Dallas Cowboys fan too as well as Houston Oilers...er I mean Texans. We're getting Bum Phillip's son as a coach yay! Now that tells on my age there...oops.
I've found some British products at World Market actually! But most we've had shipped in from online websites...I've got a stash of Bird's custard and flake bars yummmm I have my own version of 99's (it's naughty though...I put hot caramel sauce on vaniller ice cream and crumble the flake bars on it and call it a 69 cuz it's that good! devil.gif

Lisa...wouldnt that be ultimate to see the magpies play sunderland! omg!!! I'd LOVE it!!! Peter will just roll his eyes at me though..he doesn't like all that fuss. I only got to spend one day in Newcastle when I was there last because we tripped up to bonnie Scotland for a holiday. I can't say I'm sorry for that because it was WONDERFUL! But I plan to tour the Toon properly next visit.

I personally would never go watch a derby game cos there'd be too many hooligans on both sides and too much chance of fights breakin out. Tho the last time it wasn't too bad.

It's on the cards for next season, I'll bust out the chants and taunts when we kick some mag azz, lol

Scotland's lush btw...one of my fave places. Where'd ya go?

We spent a few days in Edinburgh. I sure shopped alot there though!!! We saw some sites and hung out in a few pubs. I actually had some pretty good Mexican food and Margaritas down on Grassmarket. Peter has family there so it was a nice visit. I didn't see near as much of Scotland as I wanted though...I want to see the Highlands still as well.
I have young children here, and I won't take them far from their dad, otherwise I might be an expat and settle over there. I absolutely loved it there!
