Hi all, I am a student, and therefore dont have an income. I do however have a large amount in bonds etc. Will they want to see enough to = 125% above poverty line for the 3 years or what have you or something else? I can get a co-sponsor but I'd rather just do it myself. Thanks!

From what I understand you would need about $50,000 in assets in order to use assets solely as a means of support. $16,000 x 3 years.

Coolarino, thanks!

msu17,

What are you doing with the interest that those bonds earn?

Can you cash those bonds in? Do you plan on doing so?

Yodrak

Thnks Yodrak. They are from my grandfather and are in my mothers and my name. She deals with the intrest, so I have no idea regarding that. Most of them can be cashed in, though I do not plan on doing that. My SO is going to be the primary support for us once he moves here and gets a job. My parents are helping out until then.
