Has anybody experienced a reasonably priced, Family suitable English speaking Hotel in and around the Embassy area of London? I'm not sure I want to rely on Public transport to get us there for 9.30.
I'm sure I read a thread on this somewhere a long time ago, but now I need it, can't find it.

Well I am staying over on the night of 6th june at the Marble Arch Inn. I have a twin bedroom booked for one night and it cost me £70.

My parents and grandmother stayed at the Marble Arch in a few years back -- from what I can recall they said it was pretty basic, and the beds were on the hard-ish side, but perfectly fine for one night. It's about a 8-10 minute walk to the Embassy from there.

I used to live on Upper Berkeley Street (moved out last July), just across the street from the Marble Arch Inn. If you like a pint, try the pub across the street, The Masons Arms.

I don't think this hotel is ANYWHERE near the consulate, but I read it's one of the most affordable and best hotels in Europe:

It's like 60 quid a night. Where is this place?

I used the Thistle Hyde Park, beautiful hotel and not over-expensive for Central London.

It's near Old Street tube station. It's quite a trendy and slightly gritty area, not what I would think of as "family friendly". However, if you're on your own and don't mind the journey on the tube, it looks like a great option. To get to the embassy, you'd either need to walk about 10 minutes to Liverpool Street station, and take the Central line to Bond Street or Marble Arch, or take the Northern Line from Old Street (very nearby) to Bank, then Central line as above. Either way it's about a half an hour if everything goes right, but then this IS London Transport we're talking about, so give yourself at least 45 minutes.

I never knew of that place! Damn, I will tell my friends now tho, cheap & exactly where they want to be!

Edit - I randomly searched for June 26-28 (weekdays) & it says 149 quid a night?

Thanks for all your helpful replies. I have checked out most of the links, and Travelodge seems to be the cheapest. I have a Family of Five and for 2 rooms, cost £140. The Marble arch inn was £220 and the Croxton was an unbelievable £298!
Anybody know of any Foreign speaking cheap Hotel's?? LOL.

Yeah I think 60 Quid a night was a one off ! Your price ties in with what I have just seen.

I think I read about this hotel (the Hoxton) on yahoo or MSN. Maybe the 60 quid was a special offer. I read the article about 3 weeks ago.

When we stayed in London, our fave little place was called the Parkwood. It was in the Hyde Park area and is an older B&B. We liked it cause it was quaint, clean and we didnt pay a fortune (75 quid in Sept. 05).

We stayed at the Hotel Royal Eagle, 26-30 Craven Road, W2 3QB. They spoke pretty good English, though it seemed to be popular with Spanish-speaking tourists.

It was close to Paddington Station and Hyde Park; it seemed like a pretty OK part of town, but it's hard to tell in London. We took a taxi to the embassy the morning of the interview and it cost 12 pounds, but it's not even a mile and a half away. We took a taxi because we wanted to be there on time and didn't know precisely how to get there, though looking at a map we wasted 12 quid.

The room itself was small but it had a TV, air conditioning, clean bathroom, comfortable bed, and was close to a tube station so that's really all you need.

We're still in conveyancing, hopefully we should be in the US in a few weeks but we don't have a completion date. We should very very soon.

Here's to reviving old threads again. Just thought this is a really good one. Dan and I were talking about hotels today. His medical was today so he walked down to the Embassy afterwards just to see where it was and all. I knew I had read somewhere on the forums about hotels in the area. Think it's very useful information for those with upcoming interviews! Any other hotel recommendations?
