My wife and her daughter, from Ukraine, have their VISA's and to travel to US on May 30th. Question, the current permission from ex-husband to bring his daughter to live in US is now over 6 months old. Will we have issues at airport allowing her to board plane? Also, everytime she travels back and forth to Ukraine from US, will she need permission to leave country if traveling with mother? Thanks for help.

As long as you have a Visa for the daughter, I doubt you will have any problems.

Even though I didn't enter the U.S. at an airport with my K-2 daughter (we drove across the border), I was not asked for the letter from her Dad stating he gave his permission for her to move to the U.S. Her visa was all they were interested in.

Good luck.

I would say that it depends upon the wording in the permission letter. If is geared towards a single event, then I would think that you may have a chance at issues, dependant upon who you deal with when travelling. But if it is worded in more of a broad manner then I would not think that you would have any issues. If the relationship with the ex will allow for it, I would get one done that is broad in scope and that details that the permission is long term and for multiple entries and exits. My ex makes me get permission every time that I travel with my boys, what a pain. Save yourself some aggrevation and try to get the details worked out now, if you can.

I don't think the airlines asked people whether the children has permission from noncustodian parents or not. For the betterment of the child, it is better to make amicable agreement between parents.

Thank you al lfor responses. It came up in discussion with the airline office when my wife picked up her tickets today. They said to make sure we had a letter of permission to take daughter out of country. Our letter from her ex states that she has permission to travel to any country and immigrate to the us. So I believe thats general enough. But I was concerned about experationd date, we have a ukrainian friend who was not allowed to travel to Belurussia do to permission was > 6months, but it was not an immigration, it was a mother taking her son to visit family.

So the letter that you have is good enough for her daughter to travel. But why the airlines would want to know whether you have letter of permission from non custodian parent?

Purpose is to protect children from being taken out of a country without both parents consent. When I brought my son and nephew to Ukraine for my wedding, I needed the same permission to take them out of US to attend wedding in Ukraine. But airlines dont ask, the border controls do in the different countries. Airline was just reminding my wife.

Yes, the need for such documentation depends on the laws and policies of the country being exited, so there is no general answer. You need to know the specific requirements for children exiting Ukraine.
