hi VJ'ers

So, i've been wondering, i've seen alot of talk about scheduling a Medical, what would be the reason for doing this? As far as i know, i read on the Embassy's website,

http://london.usembassy.gov/cons_new/visa/...processing.html :
'On receipt of the DS-230-I, the DS-156 and supplement, and IV-15, the Immigrant Visa Unit will perform any additional processing which may be required and advise you concerning the scheduling of the medical interview and the appointment for the formal visa interview.'

and

http://london.usembassy.gov/cons_new/visa/iv/medexam.html :
'Detailed information on the location of the medical centers and scheduling the medical appointment will be provided to the applicant when he or she receives notification of the date and time of the formal visa interview.'

They say, they'll schedule one for you and also looking at Packet 4 in the Gallery section, there's a document there, that show's a section for a Medical Appt. date.

So, are some people just trying to speed things up by getting the Medical out the way, or to make it more convienent for them if they live outside London.

Just want to clarify smile.gif

Thank you
MaydayDas
it is always better to do the medical before so in the interview day not to be stress with that......

How does that translate to they will do it for you? no0pb.gif

Yep they don't schedule the medical for you, they just give you the information that you need to schedule your medical for yourself - including your case number. When I scheduled mine I got one within a few days, it was no problem organising it. Getting there from up north then paying for it... now that was more trouble blink.gif

My hubby had to schedule his own, in fact, I don't know anyone who has had the embassy schedule it for them. Also you need to be careful, because there are lots of "oddly" worded phrases within the embassy literature that may mislead you, and in some cases, completely antiquated information that has been changed, yet they don't seem to feel the need to alter their mailings or web site to jive with the "new way" - such as payment of visa processing fees (which you now do at the embassy though, the literature tells you you need a bank slip etc).

They give you information on scheduling the medical - ie information as to how you go about scheduling it. They don't do it for you, and they don't claim to, either! smile.gif

ok, thank you for clearing up my misapprehensions. I got caught in the US Government 'oddly worded' realm.

I look at the Packet 4 images there, i see a document [Image 1] with a 'Medical Appointment' section, then i look at [Image 6], at the top, in bold letters saying 'We have scheduled a medical examination for you at 8:00am on the date shown on the attached appointment letter'. So i combined the 'oddly worded' with the 'We have scheduled' and came to the conclusion that, when Packet 4 comes, there will be an appointment letter with a Date/Time for a medical examination.

But then i look at the bottom of that [Image 6] document and see a 'Oct 2001', 6yrs old, an old process then.

I hope that clears up how i came to think this.
Thank you for helping me out! smile.gif

Yeah, a lot of the gallery images are pretty old. Surf around the forums (UK regional and general cons.) and you'll find more udpated london packet scans. Check AlienUkGirl's packet 3 scans in general cons. forum, for example)

Yep, you most certainly must schedule your own. They were very flexible with dates and times when we called up.I know most people have great reviews to give of the whole day, but ours was a bit...huh. Bruce does a lot of work for the General Medical Council as an actor and he thought the exam was so cursory as to be a bit meaningless. But then of course he passed so we ain't complaining! Just don't expect to be prodded within an inch of your life.
