Hello Everyone!

I've recently returned from a great trip to the Philippines where I finally got to meet my fiance' and her family in person after months of time online with her. I met her in Manila, spent a few days there, took her and her mom and sister to see her 93 year old grandmother and other family in Bohol. We spent a few days at the Bohol Beach Club and saw the sights (Chocolate hills, Tarsier monkeys, huge python snake with a ghay cross dressing handler lol...) We then went to Boracay and had a great couple days on the beach there at Fridays resort. We went Jetskiing and she took the Discover Diving course. It was great, she's such a love and so adventurous, willing to try anything fun! Then we went back to Manila ( I call it Mall-nila) and visited the malls for some shopping and watched some movies. It was 10 days of bliss. We had a great time! It was waaaaaaay to short, but I had to get back to work *sigh*.

Now I'm back home ramping up to start the K-1 process.

I live in San Jose, California. I wonder if anyone could recommend a good Immigration Attorney in this area that is familiar with processing K-1's where the fiancé is from the Philippines?

Looking forward to getting back together with her asap!

See you around! TIA!

Thanks,

Hello and welcome to VJ! You had a wonderful trip full of great time. Congratulations good.gif ....Good luck with your fiance visa and I hope you will get to be soon with your fiance/future wife.
Why you want to hire an attorney when you have VJ? laughing.gif Unless you have some complications I do not see why you can not do it by yourself good.gif

Hi, and welcome to VJ!!!!

There should be an edit icon on the bottom right of your post. Most people will tell you that you don't need a lawyer unless you have a particularly complicated case. You can get most of the information required from this website and ask questions if your not sure about something. Check out the visa FAQS and guides at the top of the page, they will give you a good idea on what you should be doing. Good luck!!!

Hi MaydayDas, thanks for the welcome!

I guess I wanted to have an attorney do it because I don't mind paying to have it done by an attorney with the assumption that it would be done faster and more accurately then I could do it myself. Maybe that's a bad assumption?

Of course you can use a lawyer, sometimes it is good to know a specialist is handling this important process. But I have to say that I heard so many stories on VJ about lawyers that they were more a delay in the process. And i wanted to save you some money and tell you that you can do it yourself. good.gif

But feel free to choose what is best for you.
All the best to you and your fiance good.gif

We are the ones who benefit from a speedy case.....lawyers draw things out which gives them time to figure what else they can bill you for devil.gif I am kidding....don't sue me! I work in the legal field so I have seen great lawyers and horrible lawyers. You would just have to hope the lawyer you are paying the big bucks to knows what he/she is doing, is not overloaded with other cases and that they are not going to bill too much. I really wanted to pay for a lawyer and my husband said no.....and I am scrambling a little to make sure everything is done correctly....for example....he did not advise me that the receipt # for the I-129F is different than the I-130. I also assumed the case number stayed the same but I discovered today on the site that that is not correct. For the 2nd time (first time several weeks ago), I asked him if the numbers are different and his original answer was that the 2 Notices for the I-129F are the same....I asked...."but are they different from the I-130?"...to which the response was basically....uh, yeah blush.gif Still this did not cause a delay of anything really, just caused me more stress mad.gif cause I thought we were being ignored or they lost our file or something else was wrong. I will make him take me out to dinner when I see him....flowers may be good too.

Oh, and welcome! You can do it!

Welcome to VisaJourney. I think you have only 5 minutes to edit your post.

I also thought using the advice of an attorney would make things easier and more professional. That mistake cost us thousands and kept us apart an additional year. No one cares about your petition more than you. Of course tho, that is just an opinion. You have to do what you believe to be best. Good luck on your journey!
