Not sure if i am in the right section or not but here it goes. My Canadian Passport is for Renewl in Feb and my lovely fiance tells me that i should get an American Passport instead. Besides saying No i am not letting my Canadian Passport Expire i don't think i can get an American one just yet. Am I wrong in thinking this. I am arriving in the US in July and we will be married shortly after that. Is that all it takes to get a passport to the US I don't think so but i could be mistaken like i say.

You are right. Does not work that way. If you want to have US passport, you will be eligable in around 3.5-4 years.

Unless you are already a dual citizen then yes you will have a long wait first. If you aren't then you have all the AOS to deal with, then a few years later the Conditional Green Card conditions lifted, then eventually the N-400 process to become a citizen that can take anywhere from a few months to years. Then once you get that done, then you will wait for your official oath ceremony. Once you have your certificate of naturalization then you can finally apply for a US passport.

So yes if you aren't a dual citizen (your parents born in the US etc) already, then your' only option is to get the Canadian one and use that for the next several years...

You can only get a US passport if you are a US citizen.

The US passport is one of the benefits of being a US Citizen, you need to naturalize first, this can be done 3 years after you got your first green-card if married to a US Citizen, 5 years if not. There is also a continuous residency requirement.
