The Vikings

Hi folks,

I've consulted the guides and read around a bit, but am still unsure of the process/timeline for leaving the US soon after getting married. My (USC) fiancee and I (a UKC) hope to have our K1 by August/September and get married in October sometime. My mum will be remarrying in England in November, less than a month after us, and we'd really like to be able to attend the ceremony but are unsure of the technicalities of me leaving the country so soon after our own marriage.

Can any of you VJ-ers offer advice on this please? Is it possible? What would I need?

Thanks,
C & A.

You cannot leave the country after entering on a K1/marriage until you have AP (advance parole) or a green card - which takes around 90 days.

Can Mum reschedule? Or can you?

File AOS and AP as quickly after you get married... your time line however will be very tight under normal processing and most likely won't make it.

Or wait to come to the USA on the K-1 until after your mum remarries, then come to the USA on the K-1, the K-1 is valid for 6 months after it is issued.

YES, THAT IS THE ADVICE I WAS THINKING
THE K1 VISA IS VALID FOR 6 MONTHS
USE IT AFTER YOUR MOMS WEDDING
GOOD ADVICE AS ALWAYS YODRAK

Yep, except it was Yu&Dan who suggested waiting the 6 months to activate the visa.

Yep, best thing to do is just wait until after Mum's date.

K-1s are best for flexible marriage plans, K-3s are good for situations where a solid marriage date is planed.

Never plan a marriage date until after getting the K-1 visa.

You can only apply for a K-3 once you're married, so a "solid marriage date" would need to be in the past.
