If my husband and I won millions in a lottery, we would both not keep working. We probably wouldn't give any notice either. We would, however, call and tell our employers that we wouldn't be back.

What would you do?
homesick_american
I'd give notice because, at least in my current situation, I'd be f*cking over friends if I didn't. innocent.gif
SoL.
I would also give my notice. And maybe find a fun job to do (after I am done traveling) tongue.gif
babybunny
I would quit my current job.. but find something better I enjoyed.
like working with animals. but, I would save the money and live off the intrest.
Magenta
Wouldn't work but might do some charity stuff. I'd definitely give my 2 weeks' notice though, it'd be rude to just leave IMO.
BelwinMills
We would work or I would go crazy!! We would probably move back to JA and not tell anyone we won money.
eau_xplain
We would both quit working and travel, do volunteer work and relax. We're both in supervisory positions so we will give notice (probably more than 2 weeks).
Jenn!
Definitely no more work for me, but I'd give notice.
deemabrouk
I'd be working hard to Hardly work tongue.gif
Sheherazade
i would quit instantly, no notice. but i'd call and say goodbye! my type of job (private chef) would be fine not giving notice... oh no, they'd have to cook for themselves or order in for a few weeks! *gasp! lol

i'd invest the money first so it gained interest, etc, and i'd travel and figure out what i wanted to do while traveling. a LOT of thinking would be done! i'm sure my future would involve real estate, volunteering, and lots of travel! not sure if i ever would "work" again. who knows?!
A.J.
I would quit my job with sufficient notice.

I'd then go ahead and consult from time to time.
KarenCee
I guess I'm the odd one...I would keep working. I love working with my kids and quite frankly I'd miss them.
MaydayDas
I will still work until I will open my own business. good.gif
Wacken
I would quit and go and do volunteer work. And sail. A lot.
JVKn'CVO
Volunteer work and Travel good.gif
CountryBoy
I'd have to ask how many million you are talking about .. if it was 10 or more I would probably quit my government job .. anything less I don't think I'd quit working per say, maybe just redirect the type of work and investing that I would do
Queen Jenn
Since I work for my DAD, I'd definitely wait until a replacement was found. innocent.gif
LovinLiberia
I'd keep working, but switch over to a different field. I would travel and invest my money. A million doesn't last long these days.
payxibka
Since a disproportinate number of lottery winners end up in bankruptcy (amazing to me), I would make sure I did not "burn" any bridges with any former employers so that I always had good employment references in the off-chance I had to return to the workplace at some point.....
Dan + Gemvita
Donating the money...and travel around the world.
KEN's ROSE
this depends on how much the winning is and the job worked.
If I won $3Mil and worked as a school teacher, I'd quit!

If I won $3Mil and I own a small jewelry store, or a roofing company, or even as a realtor I may still continue working.
Niels Bohr
I'd rather spend time with my family than work.
raymaga
Interesting responses everyone!!!

My husband and I both feel like we've worked hard enough all our lives (we're both 51) and want to spend more time doing things we enjoy together, instead of spending time with our co-workers.

I can't wait until you can do what you chose during the week, without waiting for the weekends to be "sunny" and nice.

Nessa
I'd keep working but not for somebody else. I'd give notice and work for myself, maybe start a business or something.
Oath
I would keep my job, unless i found something else to do every day that filled my time, otherwise life is just one big boring ### day after another.
WifeOHunkyJohn
I'm trying to write a book, and with all the millions, I could pick anywhere in the world to write it, so, no, I would not give up my job if I won the lottery - I'd just have a LOT more fun with it.

Now if hubby won the lottery, yes, I suspect he would give up working, at least in the sense of being employed by someone else. Working for yourself, even if all it includes is people watching in Hawaii as you sip cocktails and plan storylines is a lot more fun than depending on someone else for your salary.

Hubby & I actually have already talked about this.. We know exactly what we'd do.. 1. pay off debt 2. buy a modest home in an area we really love (probably Colorado), 3. find jobs we love not HAVE to have for the $$ 4. Take care of our families (my hubby's 2 children), 5. Give the rest away.

We figure we don't NEED it.. and if we used what we needed and gave the rest away it would save us from 1. ruining our lives by greed and worry and 2. keeping other people from Driving us NUTS asking us for money!
JODO
I would stop working and start traveling more immediately.
jg_am
I don't know if I'd quit or stay. I'd like to think I'd strategically use up my vaction/sick time, wait for my boss to tick me off and walk out and never return. I don't know what else I'd do though. I think I'd like to do some kind of work to fill my days...maybe not. tongue.gif

Now that's my kinda of gal! In America, we spend more time working than do with our families. Time for a change when I hit the jackpot!

Here's the way it works. If the jackpot is 400 million dollars, every year I would get an additional 3 million dollars. For an average American, they don't need to spend that amount. So, you will be rich forever.
Welshcookie
If I won millions (GBPs preferably tongue.gif ) I would run my own residential home for the elderly....with over 20 years in that field I know what makes a bad one so I can't go wrong wink.gif

If it was a million, I'd give two weeks notice. It's not enough to facilitate my husband leaving his job.

If it was multiple millions, off we go travelling and my hubby can write his little heart out.
Eresh
We would both quit working. I don't think I'd give notice though since my boss gives me less than 24 hours notice when she needs me on my days off. We would travel for awhile and then I'd like to do some volunteering at the animal shelter since I don't have much time for that right now.
califa
i would quit my job and pay somebody to cover my shifts!!!and go crazy!!!
MHandMB
I'd give a sufficient notice, probably a bit more than the 2 weeks (because I love my co-workers and wouldnt want to make things difficult for them). Then, I would share the money with my parents and sister, as well as my husband's family, buy a pied a terre in Paris which would be our home base, and start my own business there. I'd LOVE to start up a magazine.

I'd definitely invest my money so it would last a good while. Mostly, I'd just enjoy time with my husband and family.

If only....

Well.. if I had a million dollars I'd buy you a fur coat (but not a real fur coat that's cruel) tongue.gif

consolemaster,
animals are killed in unimaginable ways as to not damage their fur coats. Anal and vaginal electrocutions are common practices on fur farm animals.

I'd do the exact same thing with my previous job. But since the current job has been good to me, I'd keep on working until they hired my replacement.

Well, the first thing I would do is take the money in a lump sum. I'd put most of it into investments, while making sure we had enough set aside in 'normal' savings to cover the rest of my husband's education. I would probably re-train for a different job that I would enjoy more. I certainly wouldn't quit my current job right away, though. I'd make sure they had plenty of time to find a replacement and help to train them.
~Nini~
Depending on how much we won... yeah, I'd probably quit my job. Buy my mom a place of her own, give my sister some money, make sure that my in-laws' mortgage was paid off.

Then, buy us a house of our own and set it up with the things we wanted (my fiance wants a projector room, boys and their toys!), then start an artsy business with my sister-in-law. We're both crafters and so far her skills are paying off, though not enough to give up her job. So to have that opportunity for her to spend time with her little daughter would be something I'd love to give her.

*sigh* If only. Well, you can dream for $2, right?
Happy Bunny
Yes, I would. But maybe not so much, and I'd deffo do more charity work good.gif

If I quit working, I'll be bored as hell, even with millions of dollars. I wouldn't quit smile.gif
