Is there a way that a poster can choose not to let a specific poster reply to a post that they make?

My example is that I post a question that is very serious to me, but I know for a fact that a specific poster will flame me during the thread and not offer any valuable information. It isn't that the flaming will affect ME too much, but some really take these comments to heart; as well these words of negativity take away from the general theme of helping with the immigration process and intimidate potential posters IMHO.

Is there an option to prevent a specific username or ip address from replying?

You have in your control panel an option to ignore users.
When you add a user to your ignore list, any posts they make will be masked until you specify that you wish to read them. You may not be able to ignore users if they are in a member group which doesn't allow them to be added.
CountryBoy
ahhh, but with this option other users will still be able to read their replies to my posts .. I just won't see them ..

hmmm, any other suggestions to keep them from replying to posts whatsoever?

hmmmm ask the Captain good.gif

Perhaps if you have an issue with a particular person you should contact them via PM to sort it out, rather than making sly little digs in a new thread.

CB - just use this and sing along:

Shoo, fly, don't bother me,
Shoo, fly, don't bother me,
Shoo, fly, don't bother me,
For I belong to somebody!

Country Boy, think about it.....

If each one of us could 'edit' the posts of people we feel 'flame us' or 'don't like us', do you think there would be anything on here to read?

Being able to have access to others' IP addresses could start a whole plethora of problems. The board would be a complete mess, IMO.
Happy Bunny
I think this gets into 'thread ownership' which I feel does not belong to the OP of any thread. Whether someone particular replies, or whether the thread veers off course is natural, imo....if you put it out there, it's there.

That's good advice. If anyone annoys you, just shoo them away! good.gif

If a 'flamer' violates the TOS in their response to you, then report the post and let Ewok handle it - either by banning them or whatnot.

Otherwise, I'm not sure how this could be controlled. Its a public message board, and you're going to get responses you don't like sometimes.

Reminds of a PM I received from a rather famous VJ troll telling me to "stop responding to his posts". I wrote back "it's a public message board - you cannot control who responds to yours posts".

Honestly, that would simply defeat the entire purpose of the board. If you don't like a response, ignore it. If you don't want to read posts from that person, use the "ignore" feature. If something violates TOS, report it.
Captain Ewok
You can not control who replies sorry. If you want that then you can PM people directly.

CB...

In my culture, when you address someone as a "flamer" then you are calling them a homosexual.... devil.gif

Like many things in life, you have to take the good along with the bad. Thank goodness the good outways the bad. There are curtain famous VJ trolls that even rational conversation goes over their heads. My advise. Try your best to ignore them. Weed out the weak- minded.

Cheers!!!

A friend provided this quote and I now try my best to take it to heart. "Don't agrue with idiots because they drag you down to their level and beat you up with experience!"
