Hello! My friend’s fiancé is flying from Heathrow to JFK in late June. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to get the cheapest tickets? So far the least expensive she found was on Priceline.co.uk with Air India at $600 (300 pounds). Thanks!

The problem is that your friend will be flying during the high travel season (as I will be doing), so cheap fares are pretty hard to come by.

There was that new Open Skies agreement signed, that will increase competition, but that's not going to happen in time for flights this summer, I'm afraid.

Have your friend keep trawling the airfare sites (kayak.com, zuji.com, which is the Asian affliate of Travelocity, and will still let you do flexible searches for international flights, unlike US-based travel sites, and of course the airlines' web sites directly).

That price sounds about right for the time of year. I have paid much more than that in June previously

Try Zoom Airlines and Maxjet airlines.

Just found flights for myself and my son for total of £600 business class on MaxJet!

Sarah's coming to Dallas for two weeks in June before she goes back to do her interview. The cheapest we could find for Birmingham-->Newark-->Dallas was on Continental for about $1,000 US. Not cheap in the summer!

actually, that sounds like a GREAT fare for that time of year. i usually fly in the winter months for around that. all my summer searches yielded higher fares. (granted, i search generally from west coast airports, but the difference between the two isn't what you might imagine. not based on overall mileage, it seems!)

Well, yes for this time of year. But is seems that I can travel to the UK for about 1/2 as much as it costs her to come here.

A Brit here in Dallas told me to seach on Lowestravel.com...I think that's correct. He said he books all of his flights back and forth England/Dallas on this website. I checked it out and it doesn't look any cheaper to me, but give it a try.

We also found out if you play with the days you are traveling, it makes a BIG difference in fare price. She's coming in on a Thursday and leaving on a Friday morning. Stay away from Sat/Sun travel.

I've had friends do Air India-JFK & let me say CATTLE CALL. Hundreds & hundeds of (not pretty smelling) people. saying. It was most definitely an issue. They will never do that airline again.

If'n any y'all seen my post on maxjet... Apparently they are better now but I had one hell of a time on them in November. But I have also done Air India and although they're basic they get you there.We're doing a one way on silverjet, £461 and sooo nice. It can, I'm sure, be done cheaper. But the niceness...

Took the words right outta my mouth. (ETA, well not *quite*...just that they're crap in general, IMO.) Craig used them for a one-way back home here one time and o.m.g. never again...he thought they were total crap, and he's not that fussy about it all! (kind of like me...just wants to get to/from in one piece!lol. ) Anyway, don't take them if there are any comparable options. If there aren't any comparable options, that's probably the reason! I had to call their customer service a couple of times for that particular flight too, and they were NOT in the least helpful....seems there is no such thing (in any respect) for that particular airline. I hope others have had better experiences with them, but we would *never* recommend them. M.
