I signed mine at the consulate in front of them when they asked me for the forms.

DS-156K is the swarn affidavit that needs to be signed in front of the consular officer, not the DS-156. DS-156 can be signed before seeing the consular officer.
Also is should be the newer electronic version, K-1, and K-3 visas are considered to be Non-Immigrant visas.

On the DS-156K form it states 3/4 of the way down on the form in a shaded area. Do not write below this line With thehe signature area being below the line I didn't sign it and will do so when I get to Montreal

I keep reading on here that Montreal is picky that we use THEIR forms. Except for the electronic forms they say to download from online. Unless you're referring to the DS-156 rather than the DS-156K. Sorry, I guess I was a bit confused

Montreal specifically requires the electronic version (with barcode) for the DS-156.
There is no barcoded version of the DS-156K.
Also, I think Montreal may be easing up on their "you must use OUR forms" thing, because a month or so ago I e-mailed them asking if Brian could download the I-134 from the USCIS website or if I he HAD to use the paper copy they sent me in Packet 3. Their answer? "Yes, the one from the website is acceptable."
