I read on the EI thread, and i called to get information about how to file and was refered to Belleville, Ont on the 1-877-486-1650. The lady on the phone was really nice and simply told me to fill it on the website and then send copies of my K-1 visa and my ROE.

Here's my silly question. Although I am practically bilingual, I always feel uncomfortable to do stuff in english when it comes to government stuff, etc. And it took a lot for me to get all this thing about EI cause just to understand what EI meant took me about 8 months....yeah i was happy when i discovered that.

So do guys think that if I fill my EI form in French it would be a big deal ??????

And I feel too stupid to call back that woman and ask her. Because just talking to her over the phone took me everything. I always had this unease when talking on the phone with strangers so its even more when its in english. Face to face is alright, but the phone is just a big monster to me. Anyone from Quebec that filled it in French?

Should be fine to file in French online. It's Federal so they should be equipped to deal with French applications since French is one of Canada's official languages.

The only thing I might be worried about is them translating your U.S. address in French... that is, using "rue" instead of "street", etc.

Also you will want to send them a copy of something saying that K1s ARE employment authorised. I remember a few people had some problems with that.

Well it shouldnt be too much of a problem to put Rue instead of Street cause anyways the zip code says it all..

About that statement that says K-1 are authorized where do you find that? I am always confused because many people are on a K-3 here, and I still havent found out if K-1 receive EI during the first 90 days and then continue after when receiving GC/EAD.

SO much paperwork its driving me crazy lol

Here's a link to a policy that the SSA here in the US has on-line. I copied all 12 pages out, however only sent a copy of page 1,5 and 6 to them.(Them being EI! hehe) This shows that your I-94 (as stated by the US gov't....) gives you employment authorization inherent in status as listed...and on another page it shows that a K-1 is one of those. I highlighted the pieces that indicated that I was immediately able to work.

I filled my application out on-line. It is VERY important to file within 4 weeks of leaving your employment. It doesn't matter if you haven't got all your paperwork with you at that time, you still file. You will be sending them snail mail when you get documents, or after you get a snail mail from them indicating what they're requesting as hard copies of.

You'll be getting paper cards to fill out...and as strange as it seems, you fill out that you're looking for employment during the visa. Your coverage stops when the I-94 expires, and then starts up again, as after you have your EAD or greencard. You can fax, or mail them a copy of that when you receive it, and again, start up your claim.

Ok now I just read that sheet that you linked me, and as I understand

K-1 are authorized to work even WITHOUT the stamp...... Means that technically, as soon as we get the SSN, we can work in that 90 days timeframe.

The following sections list nonimmigrants, by alien class of admission codes, who are authorized to work in the U.S. without specific authorization from DHS. The person’s I-94 will not have the DHS employment authorization stamp and the alien will generally not have an EAD.

Please someone clarify me, i dont get it, there is too much contradictory informations

ok I wrote yes, and im gonna send that sheet with it and see what happens.

And Im gonna unclude my originals ROE and make a copy for myself and send a copy of My K-1. Thats it.

I think you should be fine with saying yes and sending that stuff. Keep us updated!
