Just to recap I have recieved packet 3 and am in the process of gathering everything for the interview.

My fiance needs to fill out the 1-134 for support but her income right now will not cover 25% above the poverty line given that she has 3 children. So she needs a cosponsor. My question is do they combine the cosponsor and her current income to equal the required amount or does the cosponsor by themselves need to cover all the dependents.

The cosponsor will need to make enough to cover it.

RumiPoet,

Point of clarification: your fiancee does not need a co-sponsor, you need a sponsor.

Your sponsor will have to satisfy the requirements on their own.

for the I-134 form do they need your past 3 yrs tax forms? I saw the part about the employer needing to fill out my work information. I really confused about all this.

And I dont understand Yodrak, if the sponsor has to satisfy the requirements on their own then why need a co-sponsor??
Yodrak
omeysgirl,

For the I-134 no, except in the case of the self-employed. In addition to the I-134 probably yes - most consulates seem to ask for 1 or 3 years of tax returns.

Most everyone uses the term 'co-sponsor' apparently not understanding that it's the so-called 'co-sponsor' who is the sponsor, in such cases the petitioner is not the sponsor.

if I use a co-sponsor, do I still fill out a I-134 as well even though I dont make enough?
Yodrak
omeysgirl,

There has been some anecdotal evidence that the consulate in London does not ask for financial information from the petitioner when someone else is the sponsor, but I do not recall seeing any reports on the issue from Australia or elsewhere.

Perhaps you can be the first? Prepare a sponsorship package, but have your finace submit only the sponsorship information from the other person who you have found to sponsor him. Have him keep your information in his back pocket unless and until it is asked for. Then let us know what happens.

Yeah, thats what I plan on doing. Thanks Yodrak

Does the sponsor have to make enough to cover myself, my fiance and her 3 children or just myself?
CutienPurg
your sponsor has to have enough resources to support themselves, their dependants and you.
