Update: exactly 40 days, Dan got his police cert today.

That means Marlon should be getting his soon. What date did you order it? (Sorry, I don't feel like doing the math! lol)

Well...27th or 28th of April he says. Of course this was AFTER they gave him the wrong form to fill out and getting it returned with the right form.

That's around the same time Marlon requested his. Thanks and good luck!

Conrad just did his today. He was fluffing around with it for a couple of weeks and we had a few road blocks. He took it to his doctor to sign only to be told a few days later when he went to collect that this doctor didn't know him and his old doctor was no longer in practice. So he managed to get a solictor he knew to sign - but it took him all day to track him down. Then our local police station was supposed to be open until 8pm, but was closed at 4pm! He finally got it in today after waiting over an hour to hand it in... I wish we would done it much sooner, oh well!!

Good luck to you, too, FM. Seems they do tend to ride out that whole 40 days, or most of it, anyways.

Just reviving this old one to add data to it: Tim got his police cert in the mail sometime over the weekend while he was away. So it took about 38-41 days (not sure which day it came in out of the stack of mail waiting for) after the May 9 date in his confirmation receipt. And it took a few weeks to get THAT receipt that started the 40 day clock.

I think it's advisable, if you're a non-VSC filer, to send away for that puppy once you hit day 60 or so of the NOA2 wait time. They definitely take their full allowed time to get it back!

I've always maintained in any of my police certificate posts that you should allow at least 8 weeks for this.

A UK police certificate will be accepted at the London consulate as long as it is less than 12 months old. Many beneficiaries order them well in advance of the petition filing.

I was going to say... for K-1s (and, I think, K-3s, although I'm a bit hazier about their timelines and have no real idea about the timelines for other visa types!), at least, you might just as well apply for the thing not long after sending the I-129F off (y'know, when you're just itching to feel like SOMETHING is happening - having your police certificate arrive midway through the wait for NOA2 feels like you're achieving something!)... unless something goes very wrong, it's not going to expire by the time you get your interview, and it's one less thing you need to worry about when you're preparing to send off Packet 3. You might want all the financial stuff to be much more recent at the time of the interview, but a police certificate that's a few months old is (as far as I'm aware) just as good as one issued a few weeks before the interview.

I think I sent off for mine about a month after we filed... it arrived waaaay before I needed it, but hey, its arrival was a little milestone that broke up the 'waiting for NOA2' monotony! smile.gif

You have to factor in the time it takes the Jamaican postal system to get it to him....

Hi everyone, i posted this question before but never received any response was hopin mayb someone could help me here??!!

I have received my police certificate but it doesnt mention anywhere on it any previous names used even though i added it onto the form i filled in.
I changed my name at age of 18, will i have to reapply for another certificate for my previous name? Or will the embassy be happy with the certificate i have?

thanks

Does anyone have the answer on this? How does the Embassy know you requested a police certificate for current and maiden name and for all previous addresses when all you get is the single piece of paper addressed to you as you are now??

TracyTN
We weren't in this situation, but I would keep a copy of the form you submitted to get the certificate in case there was any question. I'm sure its standard operating procedure for them to check the other names but only print the current one on the certificate itself.

Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't the Police Form that you fill in ask if you have ever used any previous names etc? I'm sure it mentions something on it, if so they should automatically search under that name also.

You are right, the form asks for any other names and all addresses. The letter that comes back, however, doesn't refer to which names and addresses were searched. I kept a photocopy of the form I submitted to the police, but I was wondering how the Embassy would know from the letter that everything has been searched and that I didn't just make up the photocopy?

Have you still got the receipt that they send you in acknowledgement of theapplication, it is about as close as you can go to showing a 'transaction' trail for the paperwork. I think if you are seen to be up front and demonstrate that you have tried to make it easy to follow, they will hopefully appreciate it and accept what you provide.

I was sent a formal receipt that the application had been received etc. This might be police force specific and it might also be the difference between handing it in at the unhelpful help desk and posting in the application. Hope it turns out okay for you.
samwatts
I still have the receipt but it only has the name i use now on it.
unfortunately i never made a copy of the form i filled in with previous name and addresses.

so all i do have is the police certificate, seems strange they wouldnt add on previous names checked though. so that it would at least show that it is a thorough check.

i wonder if there is anyway of contactin them and askin for a letter confirmin what was actually checked, like a more detailed description of it.

thanks for all the help good.gif
