Hi!

Take a look at my signature. On the 5th April I received email notice of K-3 Approval. April 12th I received a letter with an NVC case number stating within a week my file will be forwarded to Chennai (India). But calling the NVC now and punching in my case # gives me "no record found." What gives? It's been way more than a week. How long does it normally take to forward the file overseas? More importantly - how can I follow up and track it at this point? No record???

Hello dj,

By the time the NVC contacts you, more than likely your case has already been forwarded overseas. You can't really check the status of K visa petitions using the automated system, you need to speak to a live person. When you contact them, ask when your case was shipped. You can then call DHL and find out if any packages were shipped to the embassy in India around that date. They'll probably ask you for the sender's name, which is US Department of State, and origin zip code, which is 03801.

You won't know exactly which package contains your petition, but you can guess that one of them shipped around the date the NVC gives you is yours. Make sure you get the tracking numbers from DHL when you call. That way you can easily track the packages on their website. DHL is pretty fast, so the embassy might have received your petition already. You can e-mail them to find out. Be sure to put your NVC case # in the subject line. Best wishes with everything.

You are exactly right Destiny. I got in touch with NVC and sure enough the package was sent to Chennai on the 11th of April. On the 12th I received a notice that it should be sent out soon. But as it turns out, it was already sent. Next is the average timeline from date of reception to packet being sent out (which is on the timelines of VJ). Thanks!

Excellent! Good luck with the rest of it.

Buuutttt -

Chennai has "no record" of my file at this point. It was sent out on the 11th of April, but Chennai still hasn't received it?

PLEASE ADVISE!

I don't know the timeline from NVC out to P3 for Chennai but somebody in the Consulate info forum can probably help you with those specifics. Generally, there is no data point between NVC out and when the file status changes to open from loaded. Loaded just means they have the electronic file.

I didn't realize there was a consulate forum. That's a brilliant idea. good.gif
