My husband and I both plan to retire at the same time, hopefully at age 62. We are both 51 right now and counting the days until retirement.

I was just curious how some of you are planning on handling retirement.

Comments please.

I actually thought there would be a lot more people who planned to retire at the same time, being as one person wouldn't want to be working while the other got to stay home and "play"!!!!

I work part-time right now (2 or 3 days a week) and my husband works full-time, so I already have a "partial retirement". And I love it!!!!!!!!!!

My Husband is disabled so he does not work.... I will have to work until I die to support us as I will only have been in the US 22 years when I am 65 so I will not have paid enough into a 401k to be able to retire, plus we have a 30 year mortgage that will need to be paid... it has 29 years and 8 months left to go....

Hubby and I would love to be able to retire at the same time. But, he will probably retire first (by just a year). smile.gif

OH is taking early retirement as he can get half his salary until retirement age, plus all benefits for life. We're then heading out of this country and moving to the UK initially, and maybe somewhere in Europe after that. He will continue to work in some capacity as will I in self-employment.

I'll probably end up retiring first, especially if I am able to keep the job I have, which has very nice retirement benefits. As my husband is going to be getting into the process a bit late, he'll probably have to retire at/near normal retirement age, well after I'm retired.

Hopefully we both can retire at the same time or at least around the same time so we can travel etc.

*** when you both are at retirement age...REVERSE MORTGAGE might be a consideration for you....

Beyond that...retirement? Who knows. Both Klaus & I are self employed...which means either early retirment through wealth, or through going bust LOL....or someone gets a job, or or or...who knows.....Neither of us has a paycheck friday....nor a 401K....or even free coffee at work.......HOWEVER

I can work in my jammies

He can smoke in his office

We both take a nap every day in the middle of the work day

There are pros and cons to everything
