Sorry I am a bit quite in here. I came here 2 months by K1 visa and eveything went well such as SSA, wedding and honeymoon. However, we got stuck with DMV. They did not give me the ID even we showed the SSN with old and new name, visa, pasport, I-94, marriage licence, join bank account with our address there, and NOA1 of AOS and EAD and biometric letter. They said that I have to wait AOS to prove that I am state resident. And all of you awared that AOS take several months to get approval, and we need drive to work or at least to do our own stuffs ourself.
Pls help if you have any ideal to deal with DMV.

DMV rules are different from State to State (hell in some states the DMV isn't even called the DMV). What state are you in?

Some states require that you have an EAD in hand. Here in Georgia, this was the case for my husband. You might want to check the DMV website for your state and find out what they require from you. Best wishes.

Here in Florida the DMV (DHSMV) wouldn't give out an ID or License without at the very least an EAD or GC. I used my EAD, Passport & SSN Card at the time. After I completed the written test was told to pay and the learner license would be mailed. A few weeks later it arrived in the mail with an expiry date that matched my EAD!

I've since become a LPR but haven't yet had my learner license updated, will update once I've taken the road test. I expect my full license will then reflect a new expiry date that will match my GC.

My husband got his with an expired I-94 (4.5 years expired), expired passport, and 3 NOAs. It really depends on the person you get at the DMV.

His is valid for one year, might go back and see when his green card comes in a few weeks if they'll give him a 2 year expiration.

Yes, and if they are anything like ours, they will not know their own requirments

We waited until Marlene had permanent residence and then she went to driving school and then took the written test and got a Learner's Permit. She finally got her license last month when she passed the road test.

We experienced that as well! Gawd, it was ridiculous. We live near a huge city that has TONS of immigrants...legal and illegal. You'd think this city's DMV (oh excuse me...DDS...department of drivers services we were told haughtily) would know the regulations in regards to immigrants driving in this state. They had to go into a back room and dig out the book on how to deal with our situation. It took them the better part of an hour (were they really digging or having lunch?) to find the information needed. Once we were actually at the point where my husband could get his license (had to wait for his EAD), we were there for SIX friggin hours...for him to take the written test and the driving test.
