Has anyone here attempted to get married and had their honeymoon in the Virgin Islands or Puerto Rico when their finance entered on a K1?

Your experiences would be greatly appreciated smile.gif

As long as your flight is direct (or you don't clear immigration, i.e. /SOME/ transit lounges), and you don't attempt to go the British VI, you are fine.

Technically if you go on a sailboat outside of territorial waters, you're visa-less upon your return and subject to exclusion, but I think that one is pretty unlikely. wink.gif

I called about this because we were planning on VI or PR. USCIS said it was fine as they are US territories. My wife got a little nervous, "just in case". AS much as I assured her she would be okay, we decided on Hawaii instead.

Hi!!

We just recently had our wedding in the US Virgin Islands and had no problems. My husband's K-1 was set to expire on 4-22-07 and we returned on the 18th. I was a little nervous at immigration upon the return through St. Thomas not knowing what t expect, but everything was fine. The immigration officer just advised not to leave the country before getting the GC and to apply for the AOS right after we got home. And if you do have problems you can always present your marriage certificate and any other immigration related papers you might have.

Hope that helps!

I came on a K1 and I live in Puerto Rico. If that was a problem they wouldn't even let me in in the first place.

We went to Puerto Rico (Cabo Rojo) for our honeymoon. It was great! I recommend it smile.gif Puerto Rico is a beautiful country.

Having said that, hubby (on an F1 visa OPT at that time) had no issues since there is no USCIS process point for flights going between mainland U.S. and Puerto Rico. He was never asked for his passport (nor was I) at any point. At the security gate we showed our MN drivers licenses.

We applied for AOS when we got home smile.gif
