I am wondering am I going to have to live in Canada for two years after we get married like it says on the pieces of paper from having a J1 Visa for almost two year. I just foudn out the other day and have no idea what to do. I would like not to have to be away from my husband. Please tell me there is some hope. We are currently in the process of filling out the forms for the K-1 visa. And we live in vemont so we will send it there. And i am going home for a while to get a job before our wedding while everything is being processed. What can i do. I feel like this isnt good news??? wacko.gif

QUOTE
General information regarding J-1 visa: Some J-type visas have a 2-year home residency requirement (2-yr
HRR). Anyone who is considering marriage on a J-visa needs to confirm whether they are subject to the HRR.
If the J-1 visa holder IS subject to the 2-yr HRR, he/she needs to obtain a waiver prior to marriage.

Marriage to a U.S. citizen is not relevant to any of the 4 methods of getting a waiver, except perhaps
exceptional hardship. Exceptional hardship has to be really extreme, not just a lack of employment
opportunities, or problems in adjusting, for the U.S. citizen spouse, It is recommended that one hire an attorney
in order to obtain a waiver.

Next time please use a normal font, not bold, it looks like you are shouting, and is hard on the eyes.

Are you married or aren't you? I'm confused. Is he your fiance or your husband?
