Since a human need water most, and can survive a few days without food I'll choose water for 1 month. There's insects, other land dwelling creatures that I can kill for food.

Here's another question about this poll. By the wording, it sounds quite a bit like we already know we'll be on this deserted island. I guess I'd never consent to go to a deserted island without being sure someone was providing me food and water. I'd bring a book.

You can boil salt water to make it suitable for drinking, right? I chose enough food of one kind to eat for a month, and I chose peanut butter. LOL Plenty of protein and sodium and I won't have to eat bugs.

I said something else, which would be matches. I was thinking about Tom Hanks' hands after he spent forever rubbing the the sticks and stone together to make a fire, and I figure once you have the fire the water won't be an issue as you can boil it. I guess that's also counting on me finding some kind of container to boil the water in...but hey, i'm resourceful so I could work it out

My wife and I lived on an Island before. It's a quiet island with about 50 residents. We had the biggest house with solid walls, and a huge kitchen. We get our water from rain water. It rains a ridiculous amount while I was down there. Every time when we need to buy food, we take a boat to the market. It was an interesting experience. This topic makes me nostalgic. I will be going back to the home this summer.

Boiling salt water won't get rid of the salt. It might get rid of the water, but not the salt.

I think I'd want a bottle of rum. In the movies, that always gets you off the island, plus, you get to be tipsy.

You have to distill it. Basically boil the water in a sealed container with a pipe leading off from it to capture the steam and condense it in another container. Then you can drink it.

I don't know if husbands count as an item, but if they do, that's what I'd take! He's very inventive and could probably invent a water filtration system, and would make some meals out of grass and leaves that would actually taste good.

I noticed that a] I know I'm going to be going to this deserted island and b] I know that it will end after a month. Related to a] people know that I'm going because they will take me there and if an emergency should arise they'll probably come get me and laugh at me for whatever stupid thing I did to endanger my own life. Related to b] even if things are going well, someone will make it stop at the end of the month.

However, since I read all the posts first before posting, I think the best choice was a Walmart---especially the kind like what they have in the US that have great big food sections, just like a grocery store.
