Another question about Montreal...

Can we fax our Packet 3 forms and Checklist to Montreal or do we have to send them in the mail? If we can fax, then where could I go (preferrably in Ottawa) to do this and about how much might it cost?

And if we can fax them then how are we supposed to send the passport photos? I keep reading that we're supposed to attach them to one of the forms.

Thanks again!

Your letter will indicate where to mail them...no mention is made of faxing.....I assume because you need to sign and date them all. You do not send the passport style photo's to them...they are used for the medical visit and then for the interview in Montreal.

Something to note about picture size: Montreal's instructions specify size (50mmx50mm)and how the picture should look....they also say it matches the Canadian passport standard BUT IT DOES NOT...Canadian passports are in fact 50mm x 70mm. I found this out the hard way and have had to have my pictures redone.

Make sure you specify what you need the pictures for when you go to the photo place...be it Walmart portrait studio or Shoppers or Blacks etc.....the nice lady in Walmart knew what size I needed the 2nd time around thankfully...they are aware of different size restrictions

I had my pics done at Walmart as well, and the girl caught the mistake right away.
She just said they want a U.S. immigration pic. A point for Walmart.

I believe the faxing back option is only available to Vancouver and not Montreal. I also thought we had to sign the papers at the Consulate at the interview and thought I would call to verify that but then I forgot to sign the papers and Montreal said that they would just have me sign them at my interview also that I could bring my photos with me at the time of my interview.

My humble opinion (since when am I humble??? since I began this process) whistling.gif

Send everything via Express Post - this way you have a way of tracking and say "it DID arrive". Regular mail is a pain in the neck, and faxing well.. who can tell how many things get lost in the fax's machine memory, lack of paper, energy blast from hellll...... I would go Express Post. Express Post is your friend!!!

Hehe, thanks. Yeah, I was wondering how papers that are faxed don't get lost or mixed up. :S Especially if there are so many of them. I have to do a bunch of extra attachments for the 230 form because I visited the U.S. several times, attended several schools (even included summer school!) and worked at several jobs...

So I think that's the route I will go - Express Post!!! wink.gif

I was lucky to go through Vancouver and I faxed them 6 pages. My DS-230 Part 1, the checklist, attachments and cover letter. I put my name and case number on every single sheet. They got it just fine. smile.gif

Don't forget to put your case number and name on your attachments. I also signed and dated my attachments just in case.

I'm not sure if things have changed but when I did my DS156 forms electronically in Jan and then printed off the copies with the bar code in the bottom right hand corner it stated attach copy of photo
I sent the forms with pics attached, sent Montreal an email inquiring about the pics for my interview and was told I wouldn't need 2 pics at my interview as I had already included them with my returned packet 3

I don't trust Montreal because of the different versions I get and hear on things involving them and therefore will be taking 2 passport pics with me when my interview happens anyhow. I would much rather be safe that sorry
