Hi everyone. My fiancee will have her medical exam next week. She wants to know if it's particularily invasive... like for females, do they have to do the whole 9 yards including maybe a pelvic exam or that "area" ? Or anything really personal of that nature? She wants to prepare herself for anything like this. I know they probably will do a breast exam depending on age or what not. And maybe if there is anything like this, it's perhaps country dependent? (I've read some different medical exam procedures for different countries/hospitals). Oh well, probably nothing to worry. Any other comments? Thanks.

Kabigon,

I think that most women have reported that they look but don't touch.

In my country, the medical exam consisted on blood pressure test, TB test and blood test for HIV and VD determination. (TB is tuberculosis with an Xray determination). Not pap test.

Hope it helps.

For the majority it does appear to be a quick glance at the most. Although I have read of some differing experiences of what a "glance" seems to mean.

There is certainly no internal examination.

Ah, thanks for all replies. Different experiences of what a "glance" is, you say? How so?

I had my medical here in the US, but I thought I would share anyways. First I had to fill out a bunch of paperwork and had to answer questions regarding my medical history...then the nurse asked about my weight, took my blood pressure, asked me for a urine sample, and drew some blood; in addition to that I had to undergo a tb test...after that I met with the doctor who looked over my vaccination record and it turned out I only needed a td booster...then she checked my breathing, eyes, ears, throat, and did a quick breast exam...3 days later I went to pick up my results. I received the results in a sealed envelope for USCIS and got a copy of the I-693 A Supplemental form for myself.

Note that no vaccinations are required at K1 level; that follows later when your then wife applies for AOS.

My fiancee's medical seemed to be more invasive than most. The exam didn't quite become "internal", but the doctor did seem interested in getting to third base. He had her strip naked, turn around, and then with rubber gloves and a flashlight wanted to check out her female parts. You can read more about the experience here:

I hope your experience in China will be better than ours in Kenya. Good luck.

Both my daughter's (K-2, age 17) and my own (K-1) medical exams were very straight-forward. We both had breast exams, but no internal exams, listened to our hearts, asked some medical questions and that was it. We both had a nurse in the room with us along with the doctor through the whole exam and we were given gowns to put on after we undressed (alone).
