Well, we went and applied for his ssn today. When you go they give you this form. It takes up the whole page, but all it has on it is place of birth, mother's and father's names, and address and phone number. I just sat there and laughed. I've been the one doing all the immigration paperwork. It's been a pain in the but. You have to be exact, and it is complicated, and asks the same thing over and over again. It is overwhelming. I felt he should start filling some forms so he could get the hang of it (because as you know in the US we are a form loving society) so I was going to let him try whatever forms they asked for on his own (and be there for back up if he needed me). Well, they handed him this simple form and I just had to laugh. It was halarious. innocent.gif

That is great. I was also surprised at how easy getting the ss number was.

Oh, yes the forms galore!!! I did the same thing to my husband, but I didn't give him the easy way out. I started with job applications so that when he went to the SSA, it was a breeze. hehehehe smile.gif

Reminds me of Nani filling out her first few applications for jobs and the little questionnaires that go with some of them. My cell phone was ringing every two minutes. Kinda cute... blush.gif

The same thing happened to me. I didn't know the answer to half his questions though. How do you translate a foreign salary? In American terms it was $10 a month, but should that really be put on the form? It was worth much more in his little village.

Well, we just put on there what she made. In Ethiopian Birr. No point in converting that. no0pb.gif

Example:

Starting Salary: ETB 450.00/month
Ending Salary: ETB 620.00/month

Let them figure it out... wink.gif
