This is for those who do not know.

If there's excess sugar in your blood, you will become tired. Just as you eat too much carbohydrates, you also become tired. Carbohydrates are pasta, bread, etc...You will feel tired. This is due to the reason that it get digested very fast, and your body cannot produce insulin faster than the rate of digestion of sugars. So, there'll be floating sugar molecules inside you blood stream reducing blood flow hence you get tired. There's an enzyme called pectin that slows down the digestion that will reduce the tiredness affect. It's commonly found within potatoes.

If you're a diabetic, it's a different story.

I didn't read this thread until I saw it was getting a lot of traffic and got curious so I popped in. lol

I tried a Dunkin Donuts in Canada once, and they weren't very good. So when I saw the only donut shop within miles of me was a DD, I didn't bother going. Now since I've seen the rave reviews I think I'll give it a try. smile.gif

I like Starbucks coffee but they're miles away. I always check them out when I see one to see if they have any of their famous carrot cake in stock. mmmmmmmmm

There's a Krispy Kreme in Orlando but that's also miles away. Every time I tried KK's coffee it was always cold so I don't like it. Their original donuts are fabulous fresh off the line.... not so great when they're cold, though.

QUOTE(babybunny)
ha! you need to have a REAL Crispy Cream. Every one knows they are best when they are Fresh!!! your canadian so how would you know anyways!

Not sure why you would say this, babybunny. There are KK's in Canada... and we even leave the igloo sometimes and take the dogsled up north to Wisconsin to try the American version. Or were you referring to something else?

you know just because there is a KK in canada. dont mean its the REAL DEAL. after all its the canadians that come here to the USA and say that the canadian items here are NOT the REAL DEAL. I learned that from yall..

I'm not a big Dunkin Doughnuts fan.... but I grew up with and LOVE Krispy Kreme! I don't buy them in the grocery store on convenience stores, only from the stores where they make them right there on the property and only if the 'hot doughnuts NOW' sign is lit! smile.gif They are so good, they melt in your mouth! Thank God there isn't one within a short drive from my house or I would weigh 500 lbs.

Also in Orlando, I just found a tiny little gormet doughnut store called Hotties. They have some unique doughnut flavors and are pretty good! For those of you in the Orlando area, they said there is one in Altamonte Springs and the one I went to on Palm Parkway over in Lake Buena Vista. YUMMY!

Lisa

Let's all meet at Alt Springs, heh.

Meanwhile, there's a KK in Harrod's of all places. I'm not a big donut person, but upon seeing it, it made me immensely homesick so I just HAD to get one. The line was literally 30 mins long at least (Americans, if you're on a 2 week vacation, why do you need to eat a donut you can get at home damnit?) Anyways, when you get up to the counter, there's a guy sayin 'free donut for a smile' so you smile, and he gives ya a free donut. Then literally a minute later asks for your order.

I was too embarrassed to say 'We only wanted one donut each which you now gave us for free' so we bought two more

And this happened literally like 4 times I went there...free donut. Why not hand the free donuts out to the people at the back of the line? lol

No--though both of us prefer Indian sweets (myself rosogolla/rasmalai, Pras peda and boondi-ladoo).

(the reason for our skipping the TH was simply lack of time on Friday).

No, we actually did lack time.

As Pras doesn't have a true DL yet (when we finally do that--not sure whether to start new MVA rant, or simply revive the old one), we could only proceed at times when I was fresh--unfortunately, we started out after only 5.5 hours sleep, so I NEEDED 2 half-hour naps in PA and OH which cost us.

Dunkin Donuts - or as I call it - DRUNKIN Donuts, because everyone that goes there is ADDICTED!

Here in good ole Massachusetts there is a DD everywhere. So much so that you can use them to give directions to people. (Or if you are more hardcore you use package stores - which are actually liquor stores)

Oh I love New England

Oh and everytime I go to Rhode Island I MUST have Newport Creamery. They have a waffle sundae that is to die for!

I hate RI drivers. They drive 55 mph on a 65 mph zone. Sometimes they drive 50 mph here in Massachusetts. They are horrible drivers.

Would you prefer Atlanta drivers then?

I've actually been TAILGATED a little south of the I-75/I-85 merge (the one south of "downtown", not the Brookwood) when I was doing 70 mph (in a 55 zone).

(at the time, in 1995, I was driving on my Alberta licence, having escaped a speeding ticket in August 1994).
Niels Bohr
I prefer neither. Personally, I would prefer if they just follow the speed limit. Civil Engineers knows why the speed limit are posted. All we know is to get to the destination faster.

i have to throw in my vote for Krispy Kreme... i grew up with them... and wasnt too far from one of the stores that made them fresh all the time... no doughnut better than a fresh hot one from KK... slides right down... have to be careful, cuz you could eat a whole box at once... then youd be sorry for it, lol... i like the plain glazed and the chocolate tops... never liked creme or jelly filled ones

there are tons of DD around here... 3 within 3 miles... if i get anything from DD, i get the munchkins, but only if they have the regular glazed... i dont really care for cake-like doughnuts... if i want cake, i get cake, you know?

i always liked that kids could sell boxed dozens of KKs for fundraisers... back then it was $2 each box... *sigh guess i am getting old... i sound like my mom "back then...."

I always get an ice caramel latte with whipped cream and lil bit of sugar, thats the best!! good.gif

Sorry there's no DD near you mags! sad.gif thats not right!

Woa, you have a major sweet tooth! I often wonder whether these flavored drinks should be served with a shot of insulin on the side. An ice caramel latte contains 36g of sugar which is around 9 teaspoons. Unless you're getting a no sugar version of course...

Hehehe, I hardly have any sugar, I don't eat sweets or anything, this is like my sugar fix, a nice treat biggrin.gif

KK's aare so damn good tho...one time I was down in London on a shopping spree...grabbed D like 4 donuts, put them in my shopping tote & forgot about them til I was back up Norf

I had no clue they could get so flat!
CherryXS
My ranking of doughnuts (top-bottom):
  1. Country-Style (available Canada-only)
  2. Tim Horton's (Canada plus MI and OH)
  3. Robin's (seen in Calgary, verified started in Thunder Bay--so it is found outside AB, www.robinswest.ca)
  4. DD/KK

Newport Creamy! yum! good.gif

I've cut down today at Dunkin Donuts, just got a regular ice coffee with a caramel shot and a lil bit of cream tongue_ss.gif

Was aggrivating when I went to DD the other day, we had a really bad thunder storm, but I wanted to get a coffee anyway before work, but when I was running back to the car, absolutely pouring down!! and the lady at DD didn't put the lid on my coffee properly and it went all down my white top, over my work clothes! argh! wacko.gif and she also put my donut chocolate side down in the bag, so when I pulled it out, 90% of the chocolate was on the bottom on the bag, jeeez, you know?! mad.gif

I had a Boston Creme D'nut at Dunkin Dounuts yesterday that was just like the "good old days" at Tim Hortons. Now a days Timmy's just serves up pre-frozen, reheated crap (in our Province anyways). I have to say that this particular D'nut was yummers indeed. Nice one Dunkin Dounuts!

The funny thing about those cooked,frozen/reheated donuts was that Tims had been doing it for awhile before anyone said anything. Then when they made the announcement, people started to complain, lol Was never a fan of their pastries to begin with.

I dunno.. I guess my first inclination they had changed the baking process was when the icing REFUSED to stay in place.. Something wasn't right in my universe after that.. smile.gif Sad really.. their Donuts USED to be yummers.. sad.gif

That was in NY - now I live in FL and there aren't too many DDs here - at least where I live.

You can make them at home easy. All they are is fried refrigerated biscuit dough with sugar sprinkled on it. Just get out your deep fryer, get some Pilsbury regular cheap biscuits, heat oil, put in biscuits and fry until golden brown, sprinkle with sugar.

I haven't been to Dunkin Donuts forever. I think the last one I visited was one in Rochester, NY. It was good. There is one like 1/2 mile from where I work, but it is a 1/2 a mile in the wrong direction.

I rarely eat any doughnuts because their fat content in astronomical BUT I do love me some Krispy Kremes. They're not as dry as Dunkin Donuts and they just melt in your mouth. Oh so good.

I don't know of any DD's near Los Angeles. Not sure how popular they are in Cali yet. I saw them on every corner in NYC though. I thought it was the weirdest thing. STB does have the best chocolate cream cheese uffins though...but their coffee SUCKS!
