Full Version: what are your hobbies?

Sheherazade
working only part time, living in a city where i only know a few people, and waiting for my fiance's interview has given me SO MUCH TIME on my hands... i've practically been a hermit this winter (not used to snow and cold) and haven't done most of the hobbies i normally do. it should be a crime to say i'm bored in a city like NYC. there is an endless amount of things to do here. but when i'm feeling down, i'm the kind of person who keeps to herself rather than go out and make myself DO SOMETHING. but its time to change things up a bit!

what are your hobbies? (besides reading/posting on vj) smile.gif

normally i love:

TRAVEL (but i keep returning back to morocco over and over...can't wait for abdou to get here and get his gc so we can go, go, go new places!!)

photography
music of all kinds...downloading, my ipod, music festivals, concerts, etc.
cooking/reading about cooking/going out to eat (but especially in ethnic restaurants)
kayaking when i'm near an ocean and its somewhat warm!
reading
interior design
watching movies
spinning (but i'd like to buy a bike and ride it around here too)
so much more but those are the main ones i've focused on.

i need new hobbies. and to go back and do more of my old ones i've been seriously slacking on! SO, what do you like?

I scrapbook like a fiend. First I take tons of pictures and then I put them in scrapbooks. It's been really nice to kind of see my whole life in ordered pictures. I have 3 scrapbooks of my trips to Jamaica alone. I scrapbooked our entire courtship and married life. They came in very helpful for the K-1 process.

Besides scrapbooking, I also make cards to mail and sell.

I also read, watch all police/law related shows like I've never seen one (even if I have seen that particular rerun many times), roller skate/inline skate, jog, and ride bikes. Travelling is a hobby I love; but don't always get to do as much as I would like.

I take mediocre pictures. Woo! I also read and learn new programming languages.

I play golf on the weekends and Claudeth has been going with me and is doing pretty good whacking the little pill for a novice. We also try to go to the gym but I sometimes just can't get her out of bed in the mornings. We both love reading but she gets into some stranges things like palm reading that I stay away from. We both love to draw and have talked about taking a class, I just haven't had the time to see if there are any art classes offered in our area in the evenings. We also both love music and Claudeth is trying to learn how to play the piano. She have a beautiful voice and I can just sit and listen to her sing for hours. I used to hook rugs and that is very time consuming if you are looking to just burn some daylight!

Taekwondo, but I'm behind and the adult class is during the time my fiance is online. I havn't been able to kick myself into going to class much since I got back.

Horseback riding. I waited a few weeks after I got back from my trip to Morocco before I resumed these lessons. I was reading young adult horse stories and was inspired to call the barn and say, "I'm back, put me on the list!"

Cross-stitch. Keeps hand and eyes busy. Problem is, when I sit down with it, I want to work for many hours before I'm willing to stop.

Try to go out with friends once/week.

Taking a literature class right now. Reading Naguib Mahfouz. I'm not being a very good student. But it does distract me.

Read about horses, islam, and whatever else I happen to pick up. Biography of some soccer player, bats, poetry. Whatever jumps out at me. Or falls on my head rolleyes.gif

My dog and my cat.

I try to distract myself from the visa thing while my fiance is busy doing his thing sooo many miles away.

No job. Alone, family scattered, friends busy. When I get back from my Morocco trip in May, I'll look for a job. Until then, I'm unemployed. (no worry about supporting him until he gets on his feet here, otherwise I would be slaving away like a real human being...instead of typing here)

Don't really have much time for a hobby. In between working full time, household chores and spending time with hubby I try to find time to read and work on sudoku puzzles.

Hahahaha

I spend my spare time with reading; writing; studying history, language, culture & politics; photography; gardening; shopping LOL; trying new recipes; all kinds of things. Slip in a little travel here and there.

Oh and I have a serious addiction to Jamaican music -- both dancehall and foundation -- and especially sound clash (best sound system of all time -- Silver Hawk, of course ! kicking.gif Followed closely by Jaro and Exodus 4x4. Used to follow Mighty Crown a little when they first bust.... ) I have literally thousands of CDs, cassette tapes and vinyl including 45s. OK I ramble... I'm sure all this is like HUH ??????? to most folks here.... probably should take it to the Yardies thread..... tongue.gif
Jenn!
I don't have much time for a hobby these days. A lot of my free time in high school and college was dedicated to my concert choir - rehearsals, concerts, tours, etc. I miss it a lot and would like to get back into choral singing when I have some time.

I also enjoy cooking, reading, TV and movies (a bit too much I think), and the computer, of course!

And now for something completely different...

Overhead the albatross hangs motionless upon the air
And deep beneath the rolling waves in labyrinths of coral caves
The echo of a distant tide
Comes willowing across the sand
And everything is green and submarine
And no one showed us to the land
And no one knows the wheres or whys
But something stares and
Something tries
And starts to climb towards the light

Strangers passing in the street
By chance two separate glances meet
And I am you and what I see is me
And do I take you by the hand
And lead you through the land
And help me understand the best I can
And no one calls us to the land
And no one crosses there alive
And no one speaks
And no one tries
And no one flies around the sun

And now this is the day you fall
Upon my waking eyes
Inviting and inciting me to rise
And through the window in the wall
Comes streamin in on sunlight wings
A million bright ambassadors of morning
And no one sings me lullabies
And no one makes me close my eyes
So I throw the windows wide

Echoes

LOL Soca, eh ? Never too much got into that (although if you go to a reggae show, you usually have to endure at least one soca song.)

Welllllllll what constitutes "good" music is such a subjective thing..... but I know I can come up with something you will like..... I'll PM you later to get some parameters from you.

I'm the same way too, always been fascinated with different cultures, languages, religions, foods, music, crafts etc. - i am vegetarian and love to try new veg recipes from around the world, it will be fun when Govi comes because he can be my 'guinea pig' lol devil.gif

I have an ebay business and that pretty much takes up most of my spare time - it's a lot of fun though!

I spent most of my time online, to talk to my fiancee when I can, but I've also grown accustomed to the internet, being online for roughly 15 years now.

When she gets here, I want to rig my computer and router with explosives and blow it sky high. Or simply not spend so much time online, as there are so many damn things to do in the Bay Area. I love going to the beaches, love going out to party at local sports bars (hockey ones), and entertainment places like D&B (Dave & Busters), or even going around the mall just to walk around and shop for non-abundantly lavish things, or simply grab a bite at Jamba Juice or Cinnabon. Then, there are the concerts, and I've been to three this year (including Type O Negative, Judas Priest, Heaven and Hell [Dio's Black Sabbath], Motorhead), and still going to two more (Kamelot, GWAR). Plan on getting season tickets to the Sharks if the price is semi-reasonable.

Also like to go out to theme parks, and when we visit my family in Detroit (her first visit), we will stop by Cedar Point and go nuts over their coasters which are amongst the best in the nation and world. Otherwise, we have Great America and Discovery Kingdom, as well as other events like the Boardwalk and local fairs.

Then again, also like to invite friends over for a party, or to watch some hockey (my cup champion Red Wings kicking.gif), or football (big games, that is, like playoffs/SB/49ers vs. Raiders), maybe even world cup soccer (the only kind I watch as it's mostly boring), or just simply relax outside in the grass and work on a tan.

I figured I'd list the things I'd like since there is way more stuff than this that I don't like to do. tongue.gif

Ugh I have none sad.gif I spend all day on the computer, not even really entertained, just passing the time. It's driving me crazy but I can't figure out what else to do. I can't seem to focus on any task. Over the years I've started project after project and usually quit within hours. I just can't finish anything so I stopped trying.
