Has anyone else run into this kind of wait time for SSN?
After 4 weeks I was told it takes DHS 9 to 12 weeks to process. The SSN office says they have sent 3 email requests to DHS for information and not received any answer. They also said they are "looking for a phone number for a live person at the DHS". (lol)
I applied for my SSN the day after I received my EAD in the mail. Why authorize me to work if I can't get a SSN to work?
Confused and concerned. My employer is patient but I don't know for how long.
I came here on a K3. I have been married to my USC for 1.5 years but we lived together previously for 6 (with proof). My green card has been pending name check since December. I am from Canada.

SSA needs to do a manual verification. They're supposed to do that if they haven't heard anything back from USCIS after 4 weeks. Suggest you go back to the SSA and ask to talk to a supervisor about how much effort has been expended to verify your employment authorization.

I did a search and found this: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/lofivers...php/t28819.html

Read up, especially that part about requesting for manual verification. Good luck!

Wow, there definitely is something wrong but I wouldn't have a clue on what to recommend to fix it. If Social Security can't get info out of USCIS who can!?!?! Maybe you could try an info pass, other than that I wouldn't have a clue.

I wish I had the answer, but we are basically in the same boat. My husband is a Green Card holder, and we are not getting any answers from the SSA regarding his application for a SSN.

His not being able to get a SSN has screwed us both out of some very important opportunities.

And for as much as I've read here on VJ, I have not found any explanation for our situation being as it is.

Thanks all for your responses. Yesterday I received two phone calls from two different people at my local SSN office saying that my SSN had been approved and I should see it within 5 to 7 days. Hooyah!

I was very lucky. After losing out on two job opportunities because I did not have the SSN, my 3rd hire took me on as a "consultant" pending the arrival of a number. It was a great deal of trust on their part and I am not receiving medical etc benefits until I am a "regular" employee, but at least I am working.

Hopefully no one else has to go through this. Now its just a wait for the green card ...stuck in "pending name check"...

It's a relief to see that they actually come through...

I'm happy to read that you finally got your SSN yes.gif
