I hate having to make different posts all on the same topic when one would suffice. I click the quote button and it turns into a minus sign.

Once you hit the quote, and it switch from + to -, you click on the "REPLY button next to it and will allow you to quote. The tag to make a quote starts with an open bracket [x] and a closed bracket [/x]. I hope this answer your question.

Where x=quote.

I don't know if I understand quite what you mean, but the quote button that you're referring to that turns into a minus sign is used when you want to reply to multiple posts with one post. You can go through a thread and click the quote button on all the posts that you want to include, and then when you press "Add Reply" you'll have all of those quotes in your post.

If you just want to quote and reply to a single post, you only need to click the "Reply button at the bottom of the post.

Just hit the reply button. Then highlight what you want quoted. Push the quote button. Make sure you only have one set of quotes

So that's what the "quote" button is for... (used "reply" lots of times, but never the "quote")

(and VJ is also known to "fold" multiple posts made in very-short timeframe as ONE reply).
