The way I see it, it doesn't hurt to get it notarized then why not get it.

i-184 need not be notarised .

Well, if you call the US Embassy in Manila they will tell you that even the I-134 no longer needs to be notarized. The I-864 never did.

I got mine notarized. It is not a big deal. For VJ'ers every bank has a notary. So go to your branch and get it notarized for free of charge as long as u have an account in that bank. It is fast. Better be safe than sorry. Thats how i look at it .

The problem is with those who file outside the U.S. (DCF) or mail the forms from outside the U.S.
In the case of the Philippines, Philippine Lawyers are the ONLY ones allowed to do notarizations and they have now been disqualified by the U.S. Embassy in Manila - their "notarizations" will no longer be acceptable.
This leaves only one "option" - going to the U.S. Embassy in Manila and paying $30 for each notarization which is simply not practical.

There should be no charge for a notarization at the Embassy for a visa-required document.
I know this for a fact for the i-864 (which NO LONGER needs notarization, but did until last summer) but am less sure for the I-134, since it technically is not required for the non immigrant visa.

Yes, but when. The current I-864 does not need to be notarized, and (above) there's no safe/sorry about it. It's simply not required (due to the language that you sign to).

I filled it out just before my husband's interview in September 2006. It wasn't notarized and they didn't care that it wasn't. The form I filled out said it needed to be but in practice they didn't care.

beameup,

Yes, the I-864 did need to be notarized, for the 1st 8 years (approximately) of its' existance, up until the final regulations and current version of the form were issued sometime last year. That's why the confusion over whether or not it needs to be notarized.
