Hiya....I had a quick question that I couldn't find the answer to when I searched through the forums. My parents are going to be co-sponsors for my husband, as I don't earn enough money to qualify. On my
I-864 I'll be using their (my parents) address as my U.S. residence. Does that mean when they fill in their form that they'll have to list 7 people in their household (my parents, myself, and my four children)? We don't live together, as the children and I live in the U.K. with my husband, but my drivers license lists still has their address on it, as it's always been my legal residence while I've travelled. Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this subject.

What happens when you each complete I-864 based on who is living in their household?

I guess that's my question. I'm asking if legal residence and household are one and the same. Because on the sticky notes on the pdf of the I-864, when you fill in the household size, it says household is defined as you, the immigrant, and any other people related by blood, marriage, etc residing in your household for at least past 6 months. I haven't seen my parents in over 2 years, so I can't say that we 'reside' together....

Where are you going to live in the US?

Once we're over there, my parents want to help us buy a house of our own. But they don't want to start that process until they're sure that the visa will come through. In the meantime, when we first arrive off the plane, my sister has invited us to stay with her for as long as we need, as have my parents....

Did you ever get a reply to your question, Mick?

I have a similar situation and I'm wondering if I should be included as a household member.

Hiya! Our visa was approved at the US Embassy in London, so I guess we did our I-864 right. biggrin.gif

On our I-864, I list myself, my four children living here in the UK with us, and Mick is the immigrant I'm sponsoring, for a total of 6. I used my UK address, as that's where I've been living for the past 2+ years.

My parents listed themselves, and Mick, who would be the immigrant they're sponsoring.

It was easy...Way too much thought goes into this!! That's what our interviewing officer told me anyway!

By the way, at no time did I use an American address - used my UK address every time for my residence. In London, at least, they're not concerned with domicile.

Hope that helps!!

On the I-864 form that the NZ Embassy/Consulate sent to me, in Part I, the section Mailing Address, they printed lightly in pencil: "Use US address"

I understand different Embassies have different rules...Like I said, I went through the London Embassy. smile.gif
