Is there a link that has the entire list of things the beneficiary needs for interview? We are trying to gather stuff soon, and I keep searching, but I can't find a list that covers everything ex: (NBI clearance, passport photos, police clearance, which forms? etc...) Thanks in advance for any help smile.gif

Hi all! I'm getting ready for my trip to the PI! I'm so excited biggrin.gif
I'm still kind of nervous because 1) this will be my first time traveling on a greencard - although word is that it's no pain, I'm still my paranoid little self; 2) this will be my first time flying, with connecting flights! Do I have to pick up my luggage at the Chicago Airport? Do I have to run? Do I need to pay for anything? Gosh... So many questions, so few answers from those I've asked! 3) My luggage is heavy. VERY heavy. American Airlines is kuripot when it comes to baggage allowances, apparently. Just 50lbs a bag, when in Korean Air, I got 70lbs a bag. So afraid I'll go over the limit (all pasalubong - chocolates and stuff. I'm not even bringing clothes with me!).. In case I do, can I give my chocolates away at the airport so I don't have to pay? tongue.gif

Still! So excited! I'll miss my hubby, but the winter-ish conditions are killing me, and he understands. My mom so loves him for letting me go visit on christmas

iya, although i don't have any answers to offer in any questions you have, i just wanna say inggit ako (i'm jealous) coz you would be able to see your family this Christmas. and it wasn't too long since you last seen each other. That is so cool! I wish I could visit Philippines soon too, right now, I'm not sure when yet. hu-hu-hu! i miss my folks.

I hope you have a nice trip and everything would go smoothly and have a great spending holiday in the Philippines. I don't miss the hot and humid weather and the pollution in Manila though. But i miss the foods badly that I ache for them sometimes. crying.gif

If you are taking a combination AA and KE flights, and they have an airline partnership agreement, you may request for your luggage to be "checked through all the way to Manila". If not, you will need to pull out your luggage from the carousel at Chicago Airport and check it in for your international flight.

My advise is that when you check-in, ask the airline personnel if they can check your luggage through to Manila. If they say no they can't, then they will give you instructions.

Always check the boards around the airport for your Gate No., Flight No. and departure time. You may have to run if you are running late for your connecting flight. You may have to pay for the cart and and excess baggage, if any. Other than that, I am not aware of any more fees to pay at American airports.

Have a fun time in the Philippines!!! Enjoy, enjoy!!! Maligayang pag-uwi.

I'd just like to share my experience in getting my learner's permit...

THe drivers dept service office here in GA did not let me to get a learner's permit..they are insisting that i am not eligible to apply for one since i am under the temporary employment thing...i said i am not under that category since i came here in a K1 visa....i even showed her the information i got from their website that non-US citizens can apply for one by presenting one of the ff immigration docs which is one is the unexpired I-94...the date indicated in my I-94 is dec 22, 2007...meaning it is not expired yet...i told her that i got married already and i got all my papers sent to the uscis...but she still insists that temporary employment thing and that i need to present an "extension letter"..what the heck is an extension letter for us under the K1 visa? i would greatly appreciate if somebody can enlighten me on this and can help me on how this works...

having said this, does this mean that i need to wait for my EAD card or Greencard to apply for just a learner's permit???

thank you very much!
jeng
I read this from some posts regarding application of state ID/drivers license..."download print-out of a DMV regulation stating that a state ID can be issued while awaiting for the finality of the AOS/greencard".

Can somebody give me a link so I can understand it???

Thank you so much...I am so pissed today not getting a learners permit with their reason that I cant understand...

Please reference the Adjustment of Status - Forms and Tips for K1 Visa Beneficiaries [CLICK HERE] just for the AOS tips. The beneficiary can apply 10 - 14 days after arriving to the US, but no later than 21 days before the I-94 expires for a social security card, driver's license, or State ID. I'm not sure whether it's a policy, regulation, or immigration law but it is absolutely certain there will be a cease and decise on processing any of the three before or after the specified window of opportunity previously mentioned. Hopefully someone has a reference or you can do the leg work yourself and let us know what you have discovered.

Until the AOS is approved the beneficiary’s status is nonimmigrant. Once the AOS is approved, the beneficiary’s status will be legal permanent resident (LPR) A.K.A “Permanent Resident.” However, you will only be issued a conditional two year greencard until, if you have been married less than two years. Then 90 days before your two year conditional greencard ends, you must apply to lift the conditions of residence to receive the normal 10 year renewable green card.

You can apply to amend your passport to state your married name as soon as you receive your certified marriage license. No, this is not required for any aspect of the immigration process. Meph started a thread which has references cited by other members on where you can apply to amend your passport to your married name [CLICK HERE]. Amending your passport is also not required to travel outside of the US. However, if you do not amend your passport to your married name, then you will have to carry a copy of your marriage license when traveling outside the US in order the validate who you are at the POE.

NOTE: Do not travel outside of the US until you have received your advance parole or greencard because you will not be permitted back into the US otherwise, which means that you will have to start the visa process all over again as a K3 visa.

as far as i could remember you attach your photos on neither of them. you can just leave it in that small plastic where they put it at the photo lab, thats how i did mine. and don't forget to write your A# and print your full name at the back as well,
and also don't forget that the photos shouldn't be edited.

hope that helps.

you asked how many you need 2 identical photos 2"X 2" passport size for I-485 application, and if you're applying for EAD as well then you need another 2. you may want to refer on this link about I-485 Instructions (#4)

Tell the GA DMV that EAD is only one proof to show your legal status. Another proof is your unexpired I-94. If you have unexpired I-94, you do not need to show EAD especially since you did not apply for one. But then again, some govt. personnel are ignorant of their own regulations.

In my case here in WA, I was required by the local DMV to show my original birth certificate, my fiancee visa, I-94, marriage certificate, and a letter from a government agency addressed to me at the address where I live (I showed the USCIS letters).

If you have been to a Civil Surgeon already for your TD shot and transfer of DS 3032 (vaccination sheet) to I-693A, then it's only the I-693A that you need to submit along with your other AOS documents.

A# and I-94#:

just making sure guys since i'm now filling up the I-485 forms:

the A# is the one found in my VISA under my US citizen fiance (now husband)'s name, right? it starts with A followed by 8-digit numbers (as in A########). It is also the same as the number found on top of my name in the NOA2.

the I-94# is nine digits followed by another 2 digits (there's a space between them): ######### ##, right? do i include the last two digits or just the first 9 digits.

by the way, is there a manila thread for AOS? it's easier to ask questions under the AOS forum if you're talking with your "kababayans"... wink.gif

I applied for my EAD but i got the rejection notice, asking me to pay $300 something...i paid $1010 though for my AOS.
Even if i had enclosed the receipt notice of my I-485 along with my EAD application and two 2x2 photo. The telephone number they(Nebraska Service Center) provided do not work.

Imatellin you NO! tongue.gif Your AOS case will not cease because the EAD was rejected. If you did not file your EAD along with you AOS application, then you were required to submit your NOA1 (Receipt Notice) along with your EAD. If this was not your issue, then I am humbly sorry for your temporary delay in joining the workforce and hopefully your AOS will be approved soon...

Per the USCIS website, in the Application To Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status (I-485) [CLICK HERE] - "If you filed a Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, on July 30, 2007, or after, then no fee is required to file a request for advance parole on Form I-131 and/or employment authorization on Form I-765. You may file the I-131 and I-765 concurrently with your I-485, or you may submit the I-131 and/or I-765 at a later date. If you file Form I-131 and/or I-765 separately, you must also submit a copy of the receipt for your Form I-797C, Notice of Action, as evidence of the filing of an I-485."

We know that Ate Cora lives in Washington...and it was under the state of emergency because of the floods(10ft) and mudslide, i do hope she is safe along with her family (can anyone please contact her).

Hello, I'm A-OK!!! Thanks for askin, imaskin wink.gif We are not affected by the flood because my in-laws' house sits on top of a hill overlooking the city of Longview. The city itself did not have any flooding (thank goodness!!!) and we're so happy about that.

Whereabouts in WA do you live? Maybe we can meet up.

I hope you are nearer to Portland than you are to Seattle because there's an Asian store in Portland called Fubonn and they sell lumpia and siomai wrapper. Here's their website http://www.fubonn.com/

They also sell tahong, oyster, bangus, bagoong, Nagaraya crackers, chippy and a few other Filipino stuff. I did not see choc-nut though. I was able to buy my walis tambo there but they don't carry walis ting-ting.

Congratulations Mae for a successful AOS without interview. Ang galing-galing naman!

Hello Manila Thread family! Well, I am finally done with the AOS. kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif Since it was transferred to CSC, it was approved last Dec. 3rd without an interview. good.gif good.gif good.gif It is such a good feeling knowing that I can now live freely here in the US, drive (but I have to learn how to drive first blush.gif ) and travel out of the country. No more immigration for almost 2 years - yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Good luck to all who are still waiting in the visa process and may your journey will be as smooth as mine.

Cheers to all!

You will need to get your SS card before you can apply for a job, but it never hurts to start looking!
