Hi,

just to confirm...TB skin test and TD shot can be done with a local doctor and not necessarily to a civil surgeon? civil surgeon is only seek for the transcription of records?

thanks.

That is correct. I had my TD shots in our city health department for free but I had to pay $25 for the TB skin test. Be sure to have these recorded. They will give you a vaccination booklet (I have one from them). Civil Surgeon is the one who will transfer all your vaccination records. I must warn you... since we came from the Philippines where we had BCG shots when we were kids, it is possible that you are positive of TB (I am) because of the anti-bodies. They might insist to have you treated so better bring your X-ray film the day that they will read the TB skin test. That way, you have a proof that you don't have TB and your lungs are healthy, according to the chest X-ray you had in the Philippines. That could save you a lot. good.gif Same thing with the Civil Surgeon. Some (or most) of them will insist that you do the entire medical so you have to be firm that you only need the I-693a and that you had the medical at St. Lukes and all the documents were forwarded to DHS when you turned in the yellow envelope at POE. The PE we had during K1 process is valid for 12 mos. so no need to redo the entire physical.

Good luck!

Awwww...that would have been so nice! I guess it probably happened that way for a reason anyway as I had a recent back injury this past Saturday and have been down in bed ever since. Just now starting to get up and move a bit. We would have been stuck at the house, but it still would have been nice to meet up.

Thank God for my loving wife who has been here taking care of my every need. You never realize how much you use your back muscles until it hurts so bad you can't use them. Mir has such a giving heart and she is truly the love of my life! Can't tell her enough how much I love her. yes.gif

Anyways....I am sure another time will present itself to meet up with you and Byron.

Take care and God Bless you and your family.

It took me 4 calls to find one who would not require a full physical again...ask them to complete the 693a for you, not to transfer your shot record. The first 3 I talked to (I asked to transfer the shot record) insisted on doing a full physical, the last one I talked to (I asked to have a 693a completed) verified that I only wanted the vaccination supplement and then immediately scheduled the appointment.
The fees vary from place to place, ours will be $67... Good Luck!

Nobody knows for sure but we paid $50 for my vaccination supplement, reading the TB skin test that I had at the city health department and attesting that even though the result was positive (size of the red swelling on my skin was 15mm), is because of the BCG shots I got when I was a kid. You need to get the list of Civil Surgeons in your area and make some inquiries. Just remember, you only need the vaccination supplement, not the entire medical since you came here using K1. The only reason why you will need to redo the entire medical is if the last medical you had is past 12 months.

Good luck!

Yeah.. don't get the full physical! In my case, although I said it again and again that I only wanted the supplement, they almost gave me a full physical. Gah.

And.. I didn't get the TB Skin test done tongue.gif Very risky of me, but by the time I'd learned about the skin test, my visit to the doctor's was all over! Imagine my panic after that.. But now I'm hopeful that it will no longer be an issue because the TB scare seems to have died down, and it (skin test requirement) seems to be based on the interviewer's discretion. unsure.gif

K1 visa holder's are allowed to work based on statute until the K1 visa expires...but the likelihood of finding an employer who will read the statute is almost non existent. Since my fiance is already getting bored staying at home while I work, I printed this out just in case she does get a call from an employer.

So what documents you showed guys to the civil surgeon that we had the physical exams and some bloodworks done in the Phils? All the medical reports except for the vaccination records and xray plates were forwarded to the immigration officer upon POE. None of us have the copies of the exams taken and medical results...I asked this since one civil surgeon insists to give me a physical exam and bloodtests since he wont be able to see a proof that I had it in the Phils. And one surgeon wants that the physical exam and bloodtests must also be done by a civil surgeon...we called lots of offices already although there is one office said that as long as we provide them proof that I had everything done already, then they will only do the transfer of the medical records.

Please give me advice on the proper support and documents.

thanks alot.

Hello Friends.... Just wanted to update that Mirasol got her EAD on 9/29/07 and applied for her first US job with Target the past Friday. She was called the next day to come in for an interview on Monday, 10/8. She did great and was given a conditional job offer on the spot at the interview. We were both so very happy as this was her first application and interview and it was a success. She had heard from friends that Target took 90 days to hire and others told her they were refused as they did not pass the "tests". She was so nervous and worried about being able to understand the interviewers if they spoke slang or too fast for her, but she did well and I am so very proud of her. GREAT JOB HONEYKO! heart.gif heart.gif heart.gif

We have our interview for AOS on 10/25/07 and are praying for a green card without any problems. Other than that, I have been off work for the past three weeks with a back injury and being sick with the bronchitis that's been going around here. Hopefully, I can be back to work this Sunday.

Hope all of you and your families are doing well. Good luck and God bless to all those with upcoming interviews and/or medical appointments. Be prepared, strong and confident and you can make it through.

Take care all!

Congratulations to Mirasol on the job. That's great. And good luck on the AOS interview. Fely has a job interview tomorrow with Visiting Angels (they are a caregiver provider). She too is worried about understanding the interviewer and the interview understanding her. So we'll see how it goes. They say they do have some Filipino clients, so that might be a good sign. I've got an interview myself next Friday (computer support for a school district) and have to take a written test, so we're both a bit nervous right now.

You need to get the list of Civil Surgeons in your area and make some inquiries. Just remember, you only need the vaccination supplement, not the entire medical since you came here using K1. The only reason why you will need to redo the entire medical is if the last medical you had is past 12 months.

Yeah.. don't get the full physical!

But now I'm hopeful that it will no longer be an issue because the TB scare seems to have died down, and it (skin test requirement) seems to be based on the interviewer's discretion. unsure.gif

thank.

Do i need to have the TD shot and TB skin test at the city or state I am currently residing? or the place is regardless as long as I have the records/results on d doctor's letter head?

We got the TD shot and TB Skin test done at the local health Dept. The total cost was $15 for both (the cost may different where you are...), then we took the cards from them and the 3025 from St Lukes to a civil surgeon to have all of the info transfered to the 693a

To confirm..If I am in Macon, GA, I could have my shots and test at Forstyh, GA?

If that is the closest place to where you live that's where I would go (that's how we picked the place we went to).
Novie did not have any swelling from the TB test, but here shoulder was sore for several days from the TD shot and she had flu like symptoms for one day after getting the shot.

We had the 3025 record from St Lukes and the records from the health dept. for the TD shot and TB skin test

Scott and Mirasol

kicking.gif kicking.gif Congratulations!!! kicking.gif kicking.gif

We sent in our AOS forms today...and now the waiting begins again whistling.gif

yup..got the same papers do but how did you convince the civil surgeon that you do not need to take another physical examination & blood tests (HIV,syphillis, etc)? As I am reading the form 3025, it only says something on the vaccine records and not on any physical exams/bloodtests.

thanks.

I was fortunate that I found a civil surgeon who did what we wanted him to do. I suggest asking them over the phone if they can do the 693A for you.
If you cannot find one who will only do the 693A for you, can try to show them this memo:

http://www.uscis.gov/files/article/I693MedExt011106.pdf

It is the "Extension of Validity of Medical Certifications on Form 693" and it allows you to make use of the medical exam you had at St Lukes prior to leaving the Philippines.

When is the timing to apply for a state ID and driver's license? Would it be better to apply it after the wedding (with the marriage certificate)?

one more thing, what if somebody wants to hire me part-time in an ice cream shop after d wedding? am i allowed to? wont i get into trouble?

thanks.

need to check the requirements of the state your in for drivers license or ID card. did you get the EAD stamp in your passport at your POE? if so, that will only allow you you to work till your I-94 expires. after that you'll need an EAD or green card. also you'll need an SSN before you can work.

Your I-94 allows you to work until it expires per SSA regulations (I have the link for this at home), the trick however will be in finding an employer that will accept it. With the current focus on illegal immigration this will be even more difficult. Good Luck to you!

We applied for a SS number 3 weeks after Novelyn arrived in the US and had the card a week later.

I dont think I have the EAD stamp on my passport at POE. I receive my SSCard today though it says there that "valid for work only with DHS authorization". What does that mean? Is this what it meant by I can work till my I-94 expires?

The employer may hire me part time coz he believes that i can work after getting married. However, what i am worried about is the legality..what if he reports my name for withholding tax purposes? etc.

as always, thank you for your advices.

DHS authorization would be an EAD or green card. your I-94 expires 90 days after your entry. after the I-94 expires, you can not legally work till you have an EAD or green card. when you AOS, you then also can apply for the EAD card, takes about 90 days to receive your EAD card.

Here is the link that I spoke of earlier...

https://s044a90.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0100203500

Go to the section labeled "C. Policy - Employment Authorization by Class of Admission"
Then look under "1. Aliens Work Authorized Without Specific DHS Authorization"

My reading from there is what I based my statements about K1 visa holders being able to work before getting an EAD....
We waited until we were married to apply for Novelyn's SS Card so that it would have her married name on it.

That's why a K-1 is able to obtain a SSN. once the I-94 expires, your status has changed. you are now out of status unless you have AOS. then your status is pending for conditional residency.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for thinking about me. I have not been "missing in action" but have been lurking lang. I visit VJ almost daily but don't have time to post anymore because the Blushing Bride is now the Maid of Honor, que horror! (chimay sa bahay, in other words). From the time I get up at 6am, it's all wifey, mommy, dog sitter and household chores until the end of the day but it's worth it (but I miss my maid of honor sa Philippines huhuhu).

Doug and I are also busy looking for a house and it takes a lot of time and patience.

I'll try to post once in a while kapag may time. I'm typing this while waiting for my laundry to finish. Buti na lang may washing machine/dryer. Habang naglalaba pwede pa ako mag-vacuum at magligpit-ligpit. I don't really know how to cook so I'm also learning how to cook. Pag tinatamad na ako, I just feed my son and Doug yung mga TV dinners. Isalang lang sa microwave, voila, dinner is served hehehe.

My interview is on Nov. 6. Good luck to Scott and Mirasol.

Hello to all my oldtimer-friends out there.
