We were finally approved today after 8 months of paperwork, waiting, stress, and nervousness. She arrive at 6 am and she was done at 9:30. The Interview was very systematic and quick, and they only asked questions from the DS-156 and some basic questions about us like, our names, our ages, our occupations, and how and when did we meet. It was suprisingly easy. I know i haven't been very vocal in this thread, but all of you have been such a blessing to us in this entire process, just being able to visit this thread made us feel like we were not going thru this process alone. Your words of wisdom was just what we needed to get thru silence of "no updates" which could drive you crazy. I speak for myself and my beautiful future Bride, when I say

Well except for the reply notifications I get in my email, I don't get to read much on on VJ recently. Fely keeps me busy helping with her garden and the constant house cleaning and rearranging just about every piece of furniture in the house. We cleaned out the cat's bathroom today (which they no longer inhabit). I never thought that room would be useable by humans again.

A week ago Friday (July 27th) we received a surprise in the mail -- Fely's SSN card. It took only 11 days from her POE date. She'll start looking for a job next week. Ah one of the advantages of entering the US with the CR-1 visa.

Congratulations to Princess and Eddie&Mary on the approvals, and to the recently married and other good news. And good luck for the upcoming interviews.

I'll be back again when I can get the opportunity.

Just letting everyone know Mae and I made it back to the US together - POE Minneapolis. I'm not sure if accompanying her made a difference but there were no problems. We sailed through Philippines emigration and after the excruciating long flight (I can't sleep on planes) we also flew through immigration in Minneapolis. FYI, there is a special line for immigrants that was much shorter than the tourist lines. The officer was very polite looked over the sealed packet, told us the visa was valid until November 2nd, and didn't ask any questions. It took maybe 5 minutes.

I much appreciate all the help from people on the board. Hard to believe she is finally here. Mae seems to be adjusting well. She is getting me organized, lol. There's a lot to be done there.

now that the new fee is effective...do we still need to pay the $340 for EAD aside from $1010 (AOS)? We will file a separate Form 785 (EAD), together with the AOS Form coz we wanted me to have EAD approval earlier than AOS...With this, is it still required for us to pay the $340 to make sure that we could have approved EAD.

Hopefully the transition is going well. Things are going to be a bit slow because your independent go get'em lifestyle will slow down dramatically due to the limitations placed upon the beneficaries due to the immigration process. This is a great time to pick-up some old and new hobbies, consider volunteering, catch up with old friends and family, and/or just relax. I'll PM you in the near future, but I wanted to put this out there in hopes that you would see it...

Except for that one time when I felt homesick, I'm doing pretty good with my transition. No more homesick bouts though I miss my family. I'm very happy with my hotDoug and my parents-in-law. I feel loved and cherished by them.

Doug and I have been busy looking at a few franchise business and we are both working hard to launch a home-based business

Although I seldom venture out of our Manila thread <too many ugly bullies out there wanting to lord it over all the forums> I still get to read some of the funny stuff that you write. I make it a point to read the Sheriff's point of view. Never fails to put a smile on my face.

Is this for real? because I and husband are planning to have a home-based business too when I m there. So no need for me to apply EAD?

I apologize if my comment was misleading, princess. The reason I commented that way is that I have no intention of filing EAD as I plan to wait for GC. While waiting, it is my intent to work in our home-based business on a "voluntary" basis, so no EAD required.

I will ask the moderators to delete the misleading part in my post.

Be careful as there is no such thing as voluntary working if you are contributing to the making of income for yourself and family.
You are still considered working and will need a SSN. Especially when it comes to filing taxes.
Example!
Wife grows the vegetables at home and hubby sells them.
Wife is still a worker and will be required to have a SSN.

You may get away with it as it's difficult for immigration or IRS to find out but alls it takes is one phone call from a jealous friend and you may be needing a lawyer or heading home.

After all it took to get this far. It's stupid to take a chance when alls you have to do is wait a few months.

I'm wondering why people are reluctant to provide the first 3 digits (after 2007) of their Manila case number. We VJ old-timers built up our excitement by guesstimating our interview schedule based on the interview dates given to those who preceded our case number. It was a lot of fun.

Is this true? I can work within the 90-day period? I wanted to work small time, as waitress, cashier, etc. in a resto known by my fiance...atleast i wont be bored at home and i have income somehow...i can help.
