My advice to all who’ll have the interview is to make sure you got all the necessary documents pretty well-covered so that whatever they’ll ask for, it can be provided. You never know what they will ask from you so better got everything readily available. Wear smile and confidence no matter how nervous you are. Politeness is a virtue as well, especially with the consul. They can ask tricky questions so make sure you are ready for it. Anyway if you are being true and honest, no matter what / how the consul asks you, you’ll always speak for what is true. And oh, keep yourself entertained because the waiting is a lot harder than the interview itself. Look for Mr. Congeniality… he was wearing peach that day… It’s like he’s the one in-charge to help the applicants forget about the nervousness. Make friends with fellow applicants and chat with them to while away the time.

Questions from the pre-screener:

Who my petitioner is
Where, how and when we met
When he visited me, for how long

Documents she asked from me:

NBI
CENOMAR
BC
Pictures
Recent snail mails
My fiancé 2006 ITR and I-134

Questions from the consul:

Who my petitioner is
Where, how and when we met
When did he visit me, for how long, where we went and what we did whistling.gif devil.gif blush.gif
If he’s married before (when I said yes and for how many times, he got a follow up question: How can you be sure that you’ll be the last wife?)
If he got kids
His job
His favorite color (I thought it was funny but I realized, he asked because David’s emails to me that we included in our original I-129F application were in bright colors; name a color and we got it; blush.gif so I just smiled and told him my fiancé’s real favorite color)
His hobbies
And the last but not the least, how did I know that I will be the last wife (yup, that question again wink.gif but I could tell that he was just making fun of me because he was smiling mischievously)

It took more than 9 hrs before I was called in a 5-minute interview with the consul, so imagine the long and frustrating wait. But it was worth all the hardships, effort, preparations… everything… when I finally got the visa. kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif It was a good sign and I knew right then that I will be approved (modesty aside blush.gif ) when the consul joked around and made fun of me. When he asked me to raise my hand and swear that I would tell the truth, I asked him if I have to stand up and he said: Oh, ok… (I stood up) raise your right hand (and so I did)… now lift your left foot on the chair… and I was like “Are you serious?” wink.gif and he laughed heartily as if he was enjoying having me fooled. He then said that he was just kidding tongue.gif and that I could just sit down. I forgot about the nervousness because I was laughing so hard. It was a breeze talking to him like we’re just close friends. I was itching to ask him if I got approved after enjoying himself kidding me but I didn’t want him to think that I was pushing my luck. All in all, the interview wasn’t so bad if not for the long wait. But like I said, having the visa and seeing the future with my honey is worth everything. I also made some friends there, sang songs while waiting for our turns and made fun of Mr. Congeniality. I also met a girl who doesn’t deserve to have a visa with the way she treated her fiancé who’s with her during the interview. sad.gif I felt bad for the guy because she humiliated and embarrassed him countless times, in front of many people. She’s lucky that he’s with him. She was so nervous when she was interviewed the guy answered all the questions for her. I think she’ll be on AR (being a nosy woman, biggrin.gif I asked her fiancé how the interview went) because she got scars on her wrist and St. Lukes asked her to see a psychiatrist first (darn right!) and also, her passport was worn out the consul ripped it (in a nice way, according to them) and asked her to apply for a new one and submit it right away. It’s not that I’m being judgmental but I think he deserves better than her… Oh well, like a cliché goes “love is blind…” whistling.gif

Good luck to all of you who will have their interviews… good.gif good.gif good.gif

Congrats!!!!

And thanks so much for the info!!! good.gif

I thought all the waiting would kill me, but now I see that was just preparation for this step...getting all the documents ready for the interview! wacko.gif

You can bring your NOA2 (and photocopy), or you can print out your schedule at USEM web and that will be your appointment letter/schedule. You can also call SLEC and request for a packet pick-up with them, so when you go there to pick up your packet, you can also go ahead and have your medical. SLEC: 521-0020 or 521-8647. Packet pick-up is located at the ground floor to the right (Window E or F).

'jeng'
Your POE is the first US state you arrived/landed in and that will be HAWAII.

'imaskin'
They did not get my CXR plates. The Immigration officer is Pinay and she told me I can even throw it away and that it is not really needed since the results are already inside the "envelop" and that is what they need. But just keep your CXR plates in your home as souvineer.

'Bernie4Bien'
For the Medical:
Appointment letter (and photo copy)
3 pieces Photo (write name and put signature at the back of the photos, I also put there my MNL#
$95 (to be paid in pesos depending on the current exchange rate at USEM)
Passport

For CFO: They have 3 sessions every day (For Filipino Spouses and other Partners of Foreign Nationals) and they can accomodate about 12-15 per sessions. If you want to finish early, you may want to attend the 10AM session, next will be at 130pm and the next will be at 330pm.

HELLO VJer's

I have a tough question here. When I filled out the G-325A biographic information (part of K1 visa petition package) for my fiancee she supplied me with the information for it. One of the things they requested was work history of last five years. Well when filling out DS-157 Form today with fiancee, it asks for last two jobs and also education history. SO when Im filling the date information out, I discover she gave me incorrect dates for work history that now conflict with her school dates of attendance. Not really sure what to do? Should I just make sure everything matches up on DS-157 form? or leave school attendance dates blank and make work history same as G-325A? ANy thoughts?

Thankyou
Carl

Hi

Sorry I should have added, now that we were working on DS-157 form I have all the correct information (dates) from her. The problem is it contradicts what she gave me earlier on immigration forms we filled. After much thought we have the correct dates now but will that be a problem because they dont match DS-157 to G-325A?

Oh well how inportant is it to put dates of attendance on DS-157?

thanks

let say an honest mistake??? as long as what she'll gona bring to her interview (all the DS-forms) are all correct infos then it should be fine. that's my opinion. i think my then fiance (now husband) had a mistake on our I-134 a good thing they didnt ask for it during my interview. and my friend had a different answer to her G325 from the DS-157, but we were told that we'll just have to correct everything, make it "right" in the final DS-forms for the interview... i hope itll work on you too

Hello

Got another question regarding DS-156 Form. Block 24 ask's "At what address will you stay in the US?"
Well I do not recieve mail at my physical address but at a PO BOX. I have been using the PO BOX on all references to my address in the past to ensure any mail would make it to me. This question implies a physical address. Should I put my physical address vice my mailing address?

Thanks

I had a problem with one form when I just put my physical address and my PO sent it back to USCIS.
It wasn't the DS 156 [did it on it also]! but ever since that happened I type Physical address ! BLAH BLAH and Mailing Address! Blah blah. and if not enuf room I put an attachment.

Question, I just went to the interview appointment site and double checked and it is now showing Kathlene's original interview date of June 6th! I went after she got her all clear from St Luke's and it gave me an appointment date of August 9th for her interview.

Should I call the embassy to confirm the right date? I went back a couple of times when I saw the new date and it came up every time, is this a computer glitch or should I be really worried? (I'm already worried a little now)

Hello everyone! I’m happy to be back on-line. I arrived on June 12 and still trying to get settled here.

My son and I were delayed at Immigration and Customs (Portland POE). It took us 1 and a half hours to clear both! Our flight was the only international arrival when we went through Immigration and my son and I were asked to line up at a counter manned by a young officer and to cut a long story short, we were the last to clear Immigration. The young guy was very thorough, looked at each and every page of the brown envelop I handed him, scrutinized the answers, looked at the picture of my fiancé, but he only asked me a few questions like, “you are immigrating?” and I said, “yes, hopefully”. He also asked when our wedding date was. And then, he handed me back the brown envelops I gave him. So I said “no, you are supposed to keep them” and he said “really?” so I said “yes”. And he asked me to come with him to a room so he could check with his supervisors. And of course, I was right hehehe. Been here at VJ too long to know that. He finally told me I’m good to go.

Another cause of delay was one of my boxes was opened by Customs because they saw a small box with tubes and bottles (my son and I hoarded Pond’s cleansing foams and detox toner hehehe). Since we were the only passengers left, we were surrounded by 3-4 customs people. They saw that I packed with me 6 pairs of step-ins and they joked and asked me if my name happened to be Imelda. Ang kawawang fiancé ko, namuti na ang mata sa paghihintay. He was just happy to see me and my son step out of the glass doors.

Thank you to all who sent best wishes my way. I’m still adjusting. The one good thing about the adjustment period is that I am eating less. I seem to have lost my appetite for food but that is good because I can see that I’m losing inches off my waist. I really need to lose more inches if I am to fit inside my wedding dress.

I forgot that during late spring and summer, there’s still light at 9pm here in America! I miss seeing the stars at 7pm.

QUOTE(imaskin @ Jun 14 2007, 10:05 AM) *
To those who already got here in the states and went thru the immigration officer, did they check your xray film? Mine he did not check it and i even offered to show it to him but he didn't care. So i am wondering now, because all i knew this xray film was to be used at my Port of Entry in the US. I arrived today June 13 In the US.

From past posts, it appears that only Honolulu POE requires the x-ray film. To those transitting through Hawaii, better hand-carry your x-ray with you as Immigration will ask for it.

Agreed. Any errors must be corrected as soon as they are caught. Embassy makes room for honest mistakes but not for knowingly giving incorrect information.

Updating list. It’s good to see new additions to our list. Welcome to our list. To those who have incomplete timelines and Manila case numbers, would appreciate if you can provide those as the info really help those who are still waiting for interview dates. Thank you.

If there's an error or if I missed any update, do let me know.

Hello everyone! I’m happy to be back on-line. I arrived on June 12 and still trying to get settled here.

Hello sis..good to hear from you!!!WELCOME TO AMERICA!!! kicking.gif rose.gif

Gary do the same thing too when he is waiting for us at the Peoria Airport. As if the 2-3 hours delay is not enough due to bad weather..I still find time to touch up and have a lots of picture taking when we get there making Gary really worried of what's wrong with us hahhaha..siempre kailangang konting paganda muna sa restroom noh? You can see Gary's face lighten up when he saw us step out of the gate door!!! He cried and laugh at the same time!!!

It amaze me that it still maliwanag pa kahit nightime na here..ain't that pretty? and oh..the food..everything here is BIG.. tongue.gif ...big serving ang food nila..ang dami hindi ko talaga kayang ubusin..nakakahinayang!!!!

Anyways..Im glad your here sis...tsikahan tayo if you got more time..I know how busy you are pa..enjoy and have fun adjusting!! rose.gif good.gif

Cora...

Welcome to America! I have been waiting for you to get back online just to write that. Ang kawawang fiancé mo is a good man and a lucky man to have you. I'm wishing you all the best. Surely one of these fine days we'll have a chance to get together. What's important is that you are now here. All the time that you have been fighting and waiting to get here will be a found memory that I'm sure that you will both look back on and laugh about.

Cheers!!!

To those transitting through Hawaii, better hand-carry your x-ray with you as Immigration will ask for it.

and my friend had a different answer to her G325 from the DS-157, but we were told that we'll just have to correct everything, make it "right" in the final DS-forms for the interview... i hope itll work on you too

Welcome to the U.S. Cora, glad you made it and hope adjusting isn't too difficult. Yeah, about the customs, I went throught the same thing last time I returned from the Philippines. I was the last person left in the area besides the 3 customs agents, and it sure makes one feel like a criminal as they scrutinize everything in your luggage. I really hope that never happens again, I really hated it. Congratulations on the weight loss. wink.gif

Less than a week and I'll be outta here for 3 weeks.

It has done the same thing with us, it now shows our first appointment time, not the rescheduled appointment in August I saw after Kathlene finished her medical.

I had the same thing happen a few weeks ago. One day there, the next poof. Than it showed up again later.

Just a quick question for all those who either went with there fiancee to the interview or plan on going....
How did you go about arranging your fiancee's trip back to your country? Before interview? After? And for you planning to be with her, whats your plans? Just trying to get some idea how to make a plan, when its pretty much hard to do.

Thanks for any comments.

Hello everyone! I’m happy to be back on-line. I arrived on June 12 and still trying to get settled here.

JeffK
Mae had her interview on the 18th but she didn't receive her CENOMAR in time, so we knew she most likely wouldn't get the visa immediately. However, she did pass the interview (!) and needs to return with the CENOMAR to continue processing the visa (technically, I assume this is AR? She said something about a blue flag?).

These are the details of her interview I recall from my not so good memory of what she said afterwards:

She had one hour of sleep the night before arrived at the embassy at 5am and was out by 11am. She said the pre-screener asked basic information about me, my children, and past marriages. She said the consul was very rude and asked her three times what our ages are, why was she sure she wanted to marry me, and how did she know she was in love. He didn't say anything reassuring and asked her to go wait for her number. She thought she hadn't passed and was in tears but the girl at the window reassured her and said that it was ok and all she needed to do was bring the CENOMAR back any day 1-2pm. She paid DELBROS and left.

We are very happy, but there is still some ambiguity and doubt since we're not sure what will happen and what delay this will cause. She has to return to General Santos and pick up the CENOMAR (it should be ready by now) and return to Manila. I haven't done a search of the VJ website but has anyone else had this experience? What sort of delay will this cause? It's quite a ordeal and more expense to return to just submit the document which will mean another flight and night at the hotel. I will call the embassy and find out if there is another means to submit it. However, on the other hand, it might speed up the process if she returned. Nothing is easy, lol.

hi there! sorry for the outcome of her sort "ordeal"... the good news is they let her paid delbros... this is one of the example on which you may be on AR until you give them what they wanted... it happen occasionally and as basic as cenomar it would/could not lead to a complete denial... but as usual its a "case to case basis" all we can do is hope and pray and give what they wanted... although i believe you can get cenomar anywhere in PHIL. correct me if im wrong... knowing nso has a computer to access nationwide and of course their record is for nationwide use.
good luck! God bless!!!

ron/may
Haole
She can go to the main NSO main office in Quezon City. They may expedite it and she won't have to go all the way back to GS.

Did they give her a 221[g] requiring CENOMAR?

Sorry but I'm a bit pessimistic as USEM normally does their own CENOMAR checks!
Hopefully thev've eased up.
Case by case naman tho!

A followup - I was able to talk to the USE Immigrant Visa Unit. A very nice woman named Loraine talked to me. She looked up the case and said that Mae can send it overnight (FedEx, etc) from General Santos and that will be ok. She also said they will validate it with NSO and this takes 4-6 weeks. So the good news is that she is not denied but we will be on AR for a while. I suspect that 4-6 weeks is a maximum based on what others have said here.

Hi Jeff,
Just to clarify, so if she would have had the cenomar for the interview then they wouldn't need to validate it? I'm not totally familiar with the cenomar but doesn't it come from NSO to begin with? I don't see why that have to get it validated by them if it came from them.

Yo Charlie!
There are a LOT of fake CENOMARS along with other documents in the Philippines.
I imagine USEM is already doing their own search with NSO.
Normally they care less about the one the person submits themselves but do their own checks.
Surprised they asked the person to submit one at all.

I guess it is no different here the U.S. with no many fake DL's. They are so bold here they sale these fake DL's right outside the DMV. Same thing goes for SS cards, I have seen so many bad imitations it is unbelievable.

My wife just got back from her interview and was told by the consul if she had prior marriages and said she will check nso. She did not have a CENOMAR- is that required for a cr-1 visa? They gave her a paper saying, "if there are documents (affv of sup, passport, a long list, etc. ) if checked, they will send you a letter to come back & "wait till you hear from us" the problem is there was nothing checked. They also said notify her if there are needed documents if not the visa will be sent.So whats the deal? huh.gif
JeffK
I'm not exactly sure if it had made a difference if she brought it. The phone person, Loraine, said that they routinely verify the CENOMAR and something about usually doing it before the interview. So yes it seems like a formality or maybe a trap if someone submits a fake one? However, she seemed to be saying Mae has to send in the CENOMAR before they will begin the check. So I'm not sure if she would have been flagged for some reason anyways (maybe since she has a child which implies that she could have been married) or if she had brought everything would have been ok.

It would be interesting to know what really goes on since it sounded like the USE does some preparation before the actual interview. Perhaps people that have been on here longer know but it's a black box to me (nerdy engineering reference).

JeffK: USEM CO are not consistent with what they asks from their applicants and it is always best to have all the possible documents at hand for the interview. CENOMAR is required (as listed in the appointment packet) for Immigrant Visa Applicants but even if the applicant have this for the interview, they still do their own NSO checks which takes about 10 working days to process with NSO (according to Lorraine). Don't worry too much, the good thing is that you paid for DELBROS (always a good sign). You just need to wait until they received a copy of the CENOMAR from NSO, then CO will review the case again, and then the visa will be delivered to you in due time. You just have to follow-up it with them, call once a week just to check the status.

crambajoy: The appointment packet for Immigrant Visa (CR/IR) states there on number 6 is CENOMAR. That all documents listed (including the CENOMAR) have to be ready to submit at the time of the interview. Although they don't usually asks for CENOMAR during the interview, since they do their own NSO checks, it is always better to have all the necessary documents at hand to avoid these things-> going back there to submit more documents.

For those who will still have their interview, this could help you in some ways:
CENOMAR for single: NSO will give the CRS Form No. 4 - which will state that the applicant does not appear in their National Indices of Marriages based on the records of 1945-2007 marriages enrolled in their database as of ______.

CENOMAR for married or previously married: NSO will give the CRS Form No. 5 (Advisory on Marriages) - which will state the date and place of marriage and the name of the bride and groom. All marriages whether annulled/spouse died will still appear on the records. For those with annulled cases, applicant should bring a copy of the MC with annotation of annulment and the court's order. For those who are widow/er, bring a copy (NSO) of the death certificate

Interesting, as I have received nothing for my wife's CR-1 interview that says (or even mentions) the requirement of a CENOMAR. We don't have one, and its too late to get one for next weeks interview. We'll see what happens.

Almi and Randy
I was scheduled for my visa interview yesterday, June 19, 2007. I woke up at 4AM. Randy sent me a sweet SMS message and a wake up call. I took a shower. I applied what I have learned from my satorial savvy class and that is how to look smart and pleasantly pleasing to others. I went to the USE at 5AM though my scheduled appointment was for 7AM.

Upon my arrival at the waiting area, I was ushered by the vendor. He asked if I would like to rent a chair while waiting. I rented a monoblock chair for 30 pesos while waiting for our turn to be called. The vendors were giving instructions to the applicants like do not bring your cell phone and other electronic gadgets, If yo
