Hi Jeng! I brought 2 photo albums with me when I went on my interview, the consul only looked at 1 album though. I was asked to open it on half then he pulled it out on his end and vice versa when he returned it to me. He looked into all the pictures in that album. I asked if he wants to see the other 1, I been told thats enough, lol

thanks gracy...did you sign already the DS 156K? It says there though that "do not write below this line"? lira's tip was to sign on the DS forms including the DS156K?

I signed on everything except the DS 156k. The filipino interviewer asked me to write my fiance's name and sign it there, so thats what I did.

Mylene just pointed out to me that according the the k-1 visa flowchart that is in my signature, there will be documents contained in packet 4 that will have to be completed and sent back to the embassy/consulate .. can someone please tell me which forms are sent back by mail and which ones are hand carried on the day of the interview?

Thanks,
CB

Hi VJer's

I have been away from the forum for a few weeks. Congrats to all VJ visa approvals and interview appointments.
I have a few questions I am sure have been answered in the past but have'nt yet found them surfing through the post pages.

As we have our interview date (07/11/07), I am beginning to plan my trip to the Philippines to be with my sweetheart during the interview. If all goes well, she will fly back to the US with me. As I have seen a timeline of 5-7 days for Delbros courier delivery and 3-4 days for USE release to Delbros, that would be 11 days after interview to possible visa delivery to Lapu Lapu City. Would these days be "business" days or do they include sat/sun. I'm just trying to get an idea of how long I should plan to stay in Philippines after interview to insure we get visa and buy ticket for her. I was thinking of planning for 16 days after the interview. Does sound reasonable?

Any idea's on good sites/travel agents for reasonable tickets to Philippines? I have been using Bt-store.com in past.

Also as part of the I-134 Affidavit Of Support, I got a printed out letter from my company, stating income, full time employment status, employment start date. Signed by my Site Management. Does this sound acceptable? Should the signature be witnessed by notary and thus notarized?

Finally as there are about 7 weeks till interview (07/11/07), I was planning on asking Ginovie to attend medical 3rd or 4th week of June. To ensure medical results reach embassy in time. That leaves about 4 weeks till medical. We havent recieved any notification from embassy, I found dates online myself. How long should I wait before calling embassy to send packet to St Lukes for pickup ? I dont have much faith in the postal system delivering to her in time for medical and interview.

Thankyou for your help.

Hi guys just wanna share my experience today, I called the embassy to follow up when I'll be picking the visa<their suppose to call and let me know but Im being impatient>, operator said its subject to administrative review etc, I was like "what??? but im approved, now im on AR??" and that no input on their computer about my case. I was really sad. Im already thinking of rescheduling my flight. But then after an hr my phone was ringing and its a diffrent operator from the embassy tellin me to go and pick the visa up tomorrow morning at 10:00 , I told her I just called an hr ago and the response that Ive got. She said that happens sometimes. Whew what a big relief, so I'll be off tomorrow to pick the visa and attend the seminar. Im so happy.

Ate Cora pls update me again visa will be received tomorrow 5/23, 2 working days after the interview, thanks.

Hi rea!

Where is this travel agency that your friend works at located? We are also looking for a good and affordable travel agency where we can buy tickets in going to US by July after interview (in God's will... NO AR hopefully!).
Robor007
We didn't get an SMS message to alert us that the shipment is on the way but here's our Delbros website status as of 7pm Manila time:

5/22/2007 6:06:35 PM SHIPMENT IN PROCESS
5/16/2007 2:50:37 PM SHIPMENT PROCESS IN THE EMBASSY

Based on orimai's status update it looks like Lina's visa should be out for delivery either tomorrow or Thursday. As long as we can get the CFO stamp done before we're scheduled to leave on Friday I'll be happy.

Good luck all! good.gif

In submitting I-134 (K-3) during the interview, do we have to make a separate I-134 for me and my child?

Thank you everyone for sending the good luck vibe blush.gif @ days from now will be my interview date. I worry on this thing...my fiance's not a native US born citizen, he was born in the Philippines but grew up in the states since he was 1 yr. old. In the I-134/affidiavit of support, it said there if he is not a native US born citizen he should attach certification of naturalization number, and i don't have it...it's kind of too late to have it since on the 24th of May is my interview. Uhmm i'm expecting that i will get put on AR. I hope they(consul or pre-screener) will give consideration since he is a US military in the warzone. huhuhuhuhu. But will they give me the chance to sumbit it or they will automatically deny me? Has anyone had the same experience? Thanks everyone.

wow its been awhile i visited this site. alot of changes. took me an hr to find this thread. lol... im doing my aos now so here we go again to that cramming awaited date. lol. good thing i can always rely the vj (esp fil-am family) for infos/help... anyways goodluck to those who'll have their interview! God's on your side!

Was wondering if anyone knows more about I-134 requirements. Many speak of the 125% of the poverty level based on family size but the State department website says for the I-134 it is only 100% and it is 125% for the actual change of status. Anyone have any personal experience on this one. I am over the 100 percent based on a family of 5 but my three kids I only have half the time. I do have a co sponsor but would like to make the I-134 on my own if I can. I will be over the 125% levels after 6 months. Also anyone know about the length of time one must be in a job. I changed positions just as we received our NOA2. Thanks and good luck to all!

I have read that sometimes they state that while paperwork is confirmed. Or like many business in the Philippines....what you want is "always out of stock"...lol Good luck we hope to be in your shoes in September! good.gif

this is the response when I emailed the Embassy with the same question:

From: "Consular IV Manila" <ConsIVManila@state.gov> Add to Address Book Add Mobile Alert
To: "roy XXXXXXX" <XXXXXXXX@yahoo.com>
As long as both applicants are named in the I-134 affidavit of support, a single copy will suffice.

Sent: Wednesday, August 30, 2006 9:26 AM

Subject: affidavit of support

Case number MNL2006723XXX

Yasmin XXXXX will be applying for a K-1 visa and her daughter Effie a K-2 visa. Do I need to submit a separate I-134 Affidavit of Support for each of their application?

Regards,

Roy

I decided to go ahead and prepare two since it only takes a couples of minutes to fill out a I-134, just to be safe.

My baby has been here in the states now for a week and we are having a great time. She has met some of my family and they have warmly welcomed her. The weather in Seattle has been cool and sunny and the fresh air she is enjoying, no pollution like Manila. I just wanted to let you all know how we are doing and the patience is well worth it. It took almost 1 year for her to get here, the biggest thing in all of this process is patience, you must have.

Thanks to all our VJ friends for the support for the long wait. We will keep in touch here....Take care everyone good.gif

Nice to hear from you DaveandFleur. WA is where I'm headed as Doug has moved there. Who knows we might bump into each other yes.gif .

Ticket prices almost gave me a heart attack $1850 for me and my son, e-ticket. You probably got the same deal

We paid about $838 US for her ticket only as her daughter will follow to join.

Tip to those who are buying tickets. Plane tickets are a lot cheaper if you choose to travel on a weekday (Mon-Thurs). Northwest ticket if flying Manila-Portland on June 2 (a Saturday) costs $1187 including taxes but costs only $775 on June 4 (a Monday). That's more than $300 savings per passenger!

To see is to believe. Check out www.nwa.com.

4 days from now will be my interview at the USE. Do they accept a xerox copy of latest ITR and W-2? because that's what my fiance's parents mailed me (as you know my fiance is currently in the warzone). But still i wish they could have sent me the ones they printed from the computer not the xerox copy.

Embassy accepted photocopy of my fiance's ITR and W2, no questions asked.

Jealous na jealous ko. I wish i was at the interview stage too. But congrats to everybody approved and my prayers to those who have some difficulties. Well I get to see my asawa to be in 3 days. I leave for Manila on PAL from Honolulu. Then take the Manila to Laoag on sunday. Hmm i am excited, yet worried coz I am jobless again. Well have to take a chance for my love. I also need to recharge, hehe. Well I have to brush on my Tagalog. I am not that good, and people tend to think I am a Meztizo and speak Tagalog to me. Hmm it is hot here, but I am going to be even more hot soon.

Hey Psoas, a word of caution. Since you are petitioning a K1, any term of endearment is okay as long as you don't refer to your fiancee as "asawa, wifey, spouse" in your correspondence as that can have severe consequences at interview time. Remember, K1 is for fiancee and CR-1 or IR-1 is for spouse.

QUOTE(jeng @ May 21 2007, 08:44 PM) *
is it okay to bring a photo album for the pictures?

I only brought 12-15 pictures. Albums are too heavy to bring. The Filipino pre-screener and the American consul did not ask me for more photos.

For K1 processing through Manila, we don't send anything back to the consulate. Only the CR-1 and IR-1 do.

US embassies in other countries do require K1 beneficiaries to send something back but not Manila Embassy.

Hi VJer's
Any idea's on good sites/travel agents for reasonable tickets to Philippines? I have been using Bt-store.com in past.

hi trakon2002, i have a friend who works in a travel agency she might be able to give a lower rate to my fellow vj'ers...i need the following to get the rates:

date of departure?
from location?
to location: Manila?
oneway/roundtrip?

thanks good.gif

Hi rea!

Where is this travel agency that your friend works at located? We are also looking for a good and affordable travel agency where we can buy tickets in going to US by July after interview (in God's will... NO AR hopefully!).

hi luvbugs4ever, my friend's travel agency is located in makati city, just let me know your details also so i can ask her for quote and will let you know how much..you're actually allowed to inquire from me for the rates and you can compare with other rates you found in any travel agencies anywhere..just let me know if you will choose our rates, okay good.gif

thanks!

I have been to Cebu three times in the last 13 months and so far BT-Store.com has always come through with the lowest fares. I fly Cathay Pacific by far the best airlines from US to Philippines. Just make sure you search for the best days to lower the fare...makes a huge difference. Good Luck!

While it is true that you only need to meet 100%, Manila Embassy requires (although they do not explicitly say it) that petitioners meet the 125% upfront or at least during interview time. Adjustment of status is only a few weeks or months away from interview and Embassy wants to make sure you are at 125% level before you file AOS. You are exempt from the 125% rule if you are in the military.

We've had successful petitioners who were new in their jobs. Just make sure you send your fiancee your last 3 pay stubs prior to interview and latest W2 and ITR . I think what the embassy does is based on your latest payslip, they multiply your salary by 12 months to estimate if you meet poverty guidelines even if your last year's income did not quite make the guidelines. What is important to them is how much you are making at the time of your fiancee's interview.

You are wise to try to make the I-134 on your own. Use co-sponsor only as a last resort.

I must agree that Cathay Pacific is the best airline I have flown on to the PI and back in terms of their planes and in-flight customer service. (Sometimes the cheapest too, but not always.) I have flown China Airlines, PAL, a combo of United/Japan Airlines, EVA Airways and Cathay Pacific to the Philippines. Never used NWA, but I used to fly them domestically. NWA is having some good fares right now. We're using PAL for my sweetheart's flight here only because they are the only airlines with a non-stop MNL-SFO flight and she doesn't want to make a connection alone in a foreign country.

One other suggestion....I was told that its cheaper to buy a one-way ticket to the USA in the Philippines instead of buying it online or from a travel agent in the states. I tested it and for me, it came true. I saved about $150 US (P7500) on PAL over what I could get it for here or online from the PAL website.

PW,

In the quote above you are specifically stating that the petitioner needs to submit paystubs, could you please reference a document where paystubs are requested by the embassy? This is the first I have heard of it and it may be an issue as I have my child support, charitable contributions, credit union deposits, insurance, union dues, retirement, additional retirement, my mortage payment, and vehicle loan payments taken out of my paycheck before I get it therefore my net income is WAY lower than my gross and it looks like I don't make alot, but my only responsiblities after the dedutions is food, entertainment, and utilities.

In leu of paystubs I have a letter from my employer .. a government agency.. on government letterhead stating my lenth of service with the agency, my monthly salary, my annual salary (at least 4 times amount stated for poverty level for our number of family members), the amount of life insurance and disability and dismemberment insurance that I have, etc., etc., and it is signed by the director of personnel with all of his relevant contact information.

I also have a letter from my financial institution stating that I have in excess of 5 figures deposited in an account (the letter states the actual amount), it also states the amount that I have deposited in the past year as well as my current balance in all accounts, how long I have had accounts with them, the types of accounts, etc. It is signed by the president of the bank with all of the relevant contact information on letterhead.

I also have my last 5 years tax returns and W-2's that I will be submitting.

I hope you cannot produce the document that I requested, but if you do I guess I will have to write an explanation letter about the amounts that are deduced from my paycheck.

Thanks,

Hey CB the form we are talking about is the I-134 for K-1 applicants. It is one of the methods. It is best I hear to include as many of the options as possible to avoid questions or the dreaded 221(g) asking for more information. From what I have read it would seam you are in good shape with your income levels.

My issue is I have changed jobs in the middle and making just a few thousand under the 125%. Was really hoping to squeek by as I have next to no liabilities but it would seem I need to show some more income or use my kids home as assets...another thing I did not want to try as my ex-wife is on the paper work still. Oh well what ever it takes my baby will make it home. Come to far to let this little thing stop me....lol. Good Luck sound like your just a few blinks away!

Shaggy474,

Thanks for the kind words .. the wait has definately been a long one.

As far as the I-134 goes, quoting directly from the document (actually copy/pasting from it)

II. Supporting Evidence.

As the sponsor, you must show you have sufficient income and/or financial resources to assure that the alien you are sponsoring will not become a public charge while in the United States.
Evidence should consist of copies of any or all of the following documentation listed below that are applicable to your situation.
Failure to provide evidence of sufficient income and/or financial resources may result in the denial of the alien's application for a visa or his or her removal from the United States.

The sponsor must submit in duplicate evidence of incomeand resources, as appropriate:

A. Statement from an officer of the bank or other financial institutions where you have deposits, identifying the following details regarding your account:
1. Date account opened;2. Total amount deposited for the past year;3. Present balance.

B. Statement of your employer on business stationery, revealing:
1. Date and nature of employment;2. Salary paid;3. Whether the position is temporary or permanent.

C. If self-employed:
1. Copy of last income tax return filed; or2. Report of commercial rating concern.

D. List containing serial numbers and denominations of bonds and name of record owner(s).

The lack of inclusion of paystubs is what had me worried that it might be an issue with the Manila Embassy only. Hopefully PatientlyWaiting can enlighten me about the issue when she gets the chance.

Good luck with your support issue .. I heard a story a while back where a petitioner rounded off their income to $30,000 annually and the minimum required to be at 125% poverty level was over 30k but less than 31k. The process was put on AR by the Manila Embassy until the petitioner submitted evidence that his true income was above the required.

Basically what I am saying is that squeeking by isn't an option at Manila; hopefully you can prove in grand fashion that supporting your fiancee will be no problem whatsoever.

Thanks for the reply,
CB

Go to Delbros main page and input your MNL case number with '01' at the end. For example, if your case number is MNL20079999999 you would use MNL2007999999901. You can also call them directly or send an SMS message with your tracking number followed by the word 'status'. Good luck! good.gif

hi everybody,

i'm a newbie here in the manila embassy thread. this is my first post though i have been lurking here for a long time now. we just got our NOA2 on May 3 and received our MNL case number from NVC on May 14. I was expecting my interview would be scheduled 3-4 months from now. But I was really surprised when i checked the US embassy appointment schedule and found out that I was already scheduled for medical appointment on July and my interview date will be on July 11. I'm kind of shocked right now since me and my fiancee has not really started gathering all the documents we need. Now, my question is when do you think i could receive my packet 4. If i want to have an early medical appointment, could i go there even if i haven't receive yet my medical and interview appointment letter from the embassy. My fiancee hasn't receive yet our NOA2 hardcopy in the mail so i can't even show that. I'm panicking now. so much to do.. so little time!

thanks!

Lina was told she could do early medical as long as she has the printout of the case number with medical and interview scheduled on it.

Packet 4 usually takes about one month from the time your case is received at the US embassy.

Your fiancee should receive the hard copy of the NOA2 soon.

Lina's interview was 5/16 and her visa is scheduled for delivery today so one week from interview to delivery. I've got flights back booked for 5/25 so we cut it close. I think as long as your interview goes okay and your case is released by the embassy within a reasonable time 2 weeks should be enough. It all depends though. If there's any delay at the embassy for whatever reason you might be stuck changing return flight dates.

You could also request a pickup. Jeff & Fria did and theirs was allowed. They interviewed on Wednesday and picked up their visa Friday afternoon. If you do request a pickup make sure you request it after the interview with the CO as they are the ones who say yes or no.
