hey sonshyne. what'd you guys end up doing regarding the civil surgeon? i've called 2 so far. the first one wanted to charge me $200 just to fill out the I-693. that preposterous! so i called another one and she said that as long as we can show that he's had a syphillis and hiv test, an mmr, tetanus, and varicella vaccine, and a tb skin test then they'll fill out the i-693 and charge us $75 for the physical. how much did you guys have to pay?

that didn't make sense to me at all. the purpose of notarizing is to verify that your signature is on a document. the i-134 obviously needs to be notarized, but tax returns? that's silly. why would we need to sign our tax returns? but i read through packet 3 and it did say that 2 or more of the following items are needed:

-notarized tax returns
-statement from employer verifying employment and income
-letter from the bank verifying bank account deposits and balance
-any other evidence that demonstrates the ability to assume financial responsibility for immigrant

i didn't get my tax returns notarized, and they're already with my fiance. i'm not freaking out because notarizing tax returns is stupid. i really don't see the embassy making a big stink about the tax returns unless the looked like they've been doctored up. besides, i have tax returns and tax transcripts for the past three years. the tax transcripts came straight from the US government.

Your absolutely right..it is my taxes....

Regarding the tax returns copies,...Do they need to be notarized???

I did.

I only have copies printed. I e-filed my tax returns. Do I get the printed copies notarized? helpsmilie.gif

I was wondering the same thing. I was concerned b/c we recv'd a bigger refund then I had anticipated on my return but found out it was "interest" for taking so long w/the ITIN application. I have the printed 1040 and I requested a letter that states what my husband ITIN is.

Now that I think about it Kimmy I think we should be fine. Those items were requested at NVC and if it was a problem someone would have mention it. Technically those forms are not even required again but still bring a copy for your records.

Ok, I've been on here asking about different ViOP services and cld each one. Basically the savings are not that much for me to go the extra route of either having my # changed or purchasing the equipment. I currently pay 35 cents a min thru AT&T as my long distance carrier. Anyway, I am interested in hearing more about this MegaFone. I was told I could purchase a CDMA phone here in the states and have it unlocked and they would be able to transfer service to my phone. Is that correct? What about MiPhone? Does anyone know about that?

My fiance has the megafon. He paid $1750J for the phone and it's $1000J a month. So worth it.. That's less than 15 dollars US a month. He also said that cable and wireless has the same program for $1000 a month but you just need the chip to put inside your phone. I wish we had that here.

I know a couple of ppl that bought the phones down there and said they were garbage. I'm looking to purchase the phone here but have no idea where to go or even start looking. I think the C&W deal is cld the 10/8. I was reading up on it yesterday. I didn't know those were cell phones as well. The way the article read I thought they were landline phones. I've also tried to locate a # for MegaFone online but I can't find anything.

we haven't had the best of luck with megafone. i think my fiance is on his 3rd phone. when it works, we can talk for about 49 seconds and then it drops the call. even though it's fickle, i've still managed to save about 50% on my long distance bill. he's got a miphone, c&w, and the megafone. he was telling me that one is his phones offers a package deal similar to megafone but hasn't gotten very far in checking it out. i've also heard about foreignphone (voip). it's linked with c&w and you connect this box to your cable modem. it's supposed to be like 17 cents/min to a cell phone. i recently tried using yahoo messenger to call him. i had to buy a phone card and it ended up being like 24 cents/min to call his cell. it's not as convenient because i have to be attached to my pc to talk to him.

my ideal situation would be to talk eachother through yahoo messenger. to me, just paying for an internet connection and being able to talk unlimited would be great. my fiance however, hates the internet.

There are places in Montego Bay that has them. I think my fiance has the number to a few shops...I'll ask him tonight and PM them to you. They are not the prettiest phones..but it's not his main one...so it doesn't matter. The only thing is sometime you have trouble getting through. But my calling card did the same thing so not that big of a deal. Overall, I think it serves it's purpose. And saving me and him a lot of cash...you feel me. yes.gif

Can you tell me more about the MiPhone? I also have been trying to read up on that as well but it all seem so confusing. I cld "foreignphone" but the plan do seem worth it to me. It would cost me $39.99 a month for the package, then 17 cents a mins PLUS I would to change phone #'s. I have family across the globe and for me to change #'s seems a bit much.

My fiance has to get two shots today at the medical. Total cost of medical exam...a whopping....$11,000. It's a rip off. ohmy.gif

Wow, I wonder how much it would cost for all the shots? Javon needs them b/c he immunization card was destroyed in Ivan.

Melvin got half of his shots about a month ago and the other half two days ago and it came to about $8000 JA. Its so funny because if you call the medical offices that the embassy states you should go to they tell you to come there and that you shouldn't go anywhere else. Yes, they are supposed to the exam for the interview but they do not necessarily have to give the shots. If you go outside of them just make sure that the DR. signs and dates your card for the immunization records so that you can show the insisted doctors the proof. They just want your damn money.

Its also so surprising because my fiance melvin got sick two days ago (sick now) after getting 3 shots. So, just imagine when you go to the embassy's insisted doctors and they give you all of the shots at one time (if you need it). Is that even safe? They truly don't even know how a person is going to react to the vaccinations. They don't care. All they care about is getting their money. Any comments on this?

Yeah I know this is a pain in the butt...but you can in fact get all shots one time just not in the same spot. Just like babies get their required shots at once

O, do you know what shots he got went he went ? the shots he should have get should have been boosters except if he never had chicken pox he would have gotten the varicella vaccine

Yeah he got some booster shots, varicella, Hep B (1 and then 2nd shot) So he should be okay now. Oh yeah and influenza ( i think that is what got him sick)

Is there something I am missing? Just off of the top of my head I can recall Sprint calling cards are one way...then I personally use www.noblecom.com and have used www.tel3advantage.com in the past. I don't purchase calling cards. When I call JA I normally just call from my home phone. It's not that bad b/c I don't call Javon often but w/my daughter going down I wanted a way for her to call me daily w/o putting us in debt. On average I pay about $300 a month for my phone service and that includes my landline (which I only use for long distance), my DSL, and my dish network.

Wow, I am sure you can't wait to have Javon here to cut that expense a bit... I use my Western Union card to make calls to my hubby. It's 8 cents a minute for landlines and 31 cents a minute for cell phones. I add money to the card online and use that when I call him nightly.

Regarding the tax returns copies,...Do they need to be notarized???

I did.

I only have copies printed. I e-filed my tax returns. Do I get the printed copies notarized? helpsmilie.gif

I was wondering the same thing. I was concerned b/c we recv'd a bigger refund then I had anticipated on my return but found out it was "interest" fo

r taking so long w/the ITIN application. I have the printed 1040 and I requested a letter that states what my husband ITIN is.

We had no success the lady couldn't find our ITIN number. My tax guy just said to wait until he got here and recieved his social card. We filled an extension. Filing jointly gave us an extra thousand dollars. Its a blessing that the money will be here before he starts schools. I think the hassle of the ITIN for anyone that gets married in 07 and hubby gets here after the tax deadline just file an extension and apply once he gets his soc card here. Its much easier.

Congrats Jonesie on the baby BOY!! luv.gif

and we are getting copies back!

Why are you paying 35 cents a min??? That is CRAZY! I know from previous posts people have given numerous other methods that #1-don't require purchasing $$ equipment and #2-are under 20 cents a min. Is there something I am missing? Just off of the top of my head I can recall Sprint calling cards are one way...then I personally use www.noblecom.com and have used www.tel3advantage.com in the past. All of which are under 20 cents a min. Hope this helps or clue me in....please huh.gif

Tell her to buy the jus talk phone cards it's 5 cents a min and is rechargeable. How old is your daughter?
. I am still waiting for my friend to get back to us. I would love a cheaper way than 19 cents a minute. I love talking to his mom every Sunday and she has no other family than us.
I would say if you used cards to get a ringyard card for 19 cents a minutes. I am still looking it to what my friend does with Vonage. I emailed him the other day so he will probably reply but who knows it could be soon come with him.
We pay 111 for com cast cable, land line (includes long distance) and high speed net. I had thought about switching to dish but that sounds a lot more expensive.

For those who are interested in the MegaFone, they use either a sprint or verizon phone. Credit cost $1200 per month, you talk alll you want as long as you want. I have a motorola v3c and i call my fiance in Orlando at least 10 times per day, Maybe more luv.gif All he does is send a text message and i call him right back. It's way better than 5 cents a min. Try it.

hey sonshyne. what'd you guys end up doing regarding the civil surgeon? i've called 2 so far. the first one wanted to charge me $200 just to fill out the I-693. that preposterous! so i called another one and she said that as long as we can show that he's had a syphillis and hiv test, an mmr, tetanus, and varicella vaccine, and a tb skin test then they'll fill out the i-693 and charge us $75 for the physical. how much did you guys have to pay?

Thats the same problem I had... After searching for a several days, I finally found someone to take care of the I-693A for $40. It ended up being a civil surgeon at a hospital complex. Maybe you should try calling one of those instead of an independent doctor's office. Hang in there and keep calling good.gif

No they don't. The whole point of a notary is to witness someones signature to make sure that the person signing it is really THAT person. (I used to be a Notary Public when I worked for the bank) Who would have to sign your tax returns? It just doesn't even make sense. Just another Embassy joke wacko.gif

Well, regardless of if they really need to be or not, or if they even make sense, the packet does have paperwork in it from the embassy that states they do need to be notarized. Would you really risk not doing it?

Wow, I am sure you can't wait to have Javon here to cut that expense a bit... I use my Western Union card to make calls to my hubby. It's 8 cents a minute for landlines and 31 cents a minute for cell phones. I add money to the card online and use that when I call him nightly.

Ringyard is still .19 cents a minute. It always connects and we have had no problems.
Jonesie
Hey everyone

A friend of mine has TalkAmerica (she added their international service to her land line) and she pays I believe 19 cents a minute to call Jamaica, and the monthly fee is low also. I use Ringyard when I call, every now and then I'll check www.sdicard.com to see if they have any specials on cards as well.

Everything is well with baby boy. Besides him preferring to lay his head right on my bladder (which is damn uncomfortable) he's great. When doing the US I saw his "goods" and shouted "is that a PENIS?!" everyone in the room cracked up...looks like lil man was ready for the camera and waiting laughing.gif. UKALien I was thinking the same thing - Rhonda's daughter is gonna have two men trying to court her whistling.gif laughing.gif

Been missing all the excitement. Trying to play catch up but phew! Things have changed. Just got back from Jamaica. Iffiesha's first trip home since she moved here last year. She was so escited and after two days she had enough. I think the slow pace in Jamaica is going to take some getting used to especially with her now juggling school, work and family life. But we are doing well. Went for her brothers wedding.

So they are doing a K-3 and I had a couple questions. Since I did the k-1 a year ago, I am not sure how to answer the question with the new process in jamaica.

1)To those who did K-3, what was acceptable in terms of the "proof of ongoing marital relationship." with them only being marraid about a few weeks by the time they start this process there is not much to go by. The info we normally use for the K-1 like pictures, phone bills, ticket stubd etc that they have tons of, would that count.

2) Do they need the I-134 or the I-864 for the jamaican interview?

3) How long is the k-3 process as opposed to waiting for the I-485 process.

4) With the new fees, am I right to assume that there is no fee with the K-3 if an I-130 is filed first and then K-3 filed after?

5) Would you suggest filing the I-485 with the I-130 if you intend to do the K-3.

Hope I am not asking too much. My process went so easy that I am not sure I understand what may be some of the pitfalls so I am just hoping you guys can help me out with advising my friends.
