Thanks for all the congrats!!!! heart.gif
He is going to visit with his family for a few days, a few birthdays, business to take care of so he will either be coming on the 20th or 27th. I have to have him come on a Friday because I CANT take anymore days off from work and I want to have at least Saturday and Sunday with him to show him around. Wasnt it you Darlene who said after the interview the time is going to fly by?? You are always right! heart.gif

ricardo i am very happy for both of you, especially after that horrid interview. when's his arrival?

hello jomo's girl and furturemrs. since i've heard both of you (and jilly) refer to vj i thought i'd check it out. ohmygoodness this site was a confusing place when i first joined! there is soooo much information, and the terminology was strange. it is however a VERY helpful site and i'm so glad i'm here!

thanks for the tips jomo's girl. i won't worry too much about his diploma then. he doesn't seem too interested in going back to school. and i'll advise him to get 2 copies of his long form birth certificate. he sent me an original bc, but i hear that one is no longer valid.

now the thing that bothers me is his immunization record. we asked his mom if she knew where it was and she has no clue. boy i sure hope it turns up somewhere in the house!

a tip for anyone with an upcoming medical who will be "fasting from a certain kind of herb": i bought a home drug test kit from walmart and left it with him with instructions to use the kit prior to the medical exam to ensure that everyting will be criss. good.gif lol

good morning everyone! my word you all have been busy here this past week! it's gonna take me forever to catch up on my reading. i visited my fiance last week and brought him the big ol' fiance visa binder and another smaller one for his records. they were so heavy that it made my luggage overweight by 12 pounds. lol! we went over the book together and i had him sign all the consular forms. the only thing he still needs to get is the police record and his medical. i was hoping that we could both drive out to kingston to get the police record while i was there...but neither one of us had the extra money. and since he has to go to kingston to drop off the ds-230 anyways, he can just get the police record then. now everyone here is saying that the quickest you can get one is 3 days, but my fiance is saying that you can actually get one the same day. he says it costs more, but that a friend of his just did this and he got it the same day. we'll see....

some things that concern me: he threw away his high school diploma (he spilled something on it and thought he didn't need it anymore) and his mother has no idea where his immunization record is. does that mean he has to get ALL those shots again?

did anyone else find it necessary to bring the high school diploma to the states? my mom immigrated to the states back in the 70s and i don't think she brought hers.

Dwain asked for next day and they said the quickest way is 3 days.

Question on Jamaican birth certificates

Me and my fiance are marrying in JA. One of the items needed to get our marriage certificate is a copy of our respective birth certificates. It also says that BC's should have the name of the father on them. My fiance BC doesnt have his fathers name on it. His father is deceased now. Is there something that we need to do to make sure his BC is ok for the wedding date? helpsmilie.gif

He should be fine. Dwain's dads name was not on his either. His dad pased away in 1988. So go ahead and send the copies in. No problem with that.

Yep. I told her the same thing.

Better find those immunization records, Tia. If not, yes, he will probably have to get a whole new set of shots. They can be very costly. Make sure he brings them with him to the US too. We thought we lost Andre's, at one point. I was ready to kill him.

We have an old birth certificate of Andre's. No one has questioned it thus far. We've showed it at immigration, the DMV, SS office, etc.

Are you getting his passport renewed from the states? Andre's expires in 2009 and, thinking ahead, I am wondering if we can do this or if we have to do it while in JA.

And, as far as the herb go..........just lay off. Geez, if it means enough to them, they can forgo for a month or so.

Yeah. Roy's expires next January......I need to do a "bit" more research but it looks like you do it from here -- send it (with all the necessary info and $$$) to the Jamaican Embassy in Washington. They handle it from there. I <believe> you need the old passport, two pictures, birth certificate, the "form" and, of course, the $$$$$ I don't think it's that big of a deal.

I've had jobs like that before......you'e glad to pick up the paycheck BUT there are a million other things you could be doing to "waste" your time. Can you ask for more things to do or volunteer to help someone out?

I think it is one of those places that has people just to have people...you know what I mean? I am always offering to help but they are kinda territorial...dont' want anyone to know that someone else could possibly do their job at the same caliber as them...I am working with people who have been here for 25+ years...they are very stuck in their ways. Where is everyone today??? I finally have internet time and you are all gone sad.gif

Hey, I'm here. I've been in and out, it's really quite here this morning.

Very quiet today. "THE CALM BEFORE THE STORM!" mad.gif

I know everyone has their own frustrations....Bert's work permits expires today. The good thing is that he has been here for 3 months already. The bad thing is his job. Today is his last day. They have been touching the AOS like crazy but not touches in almost a month for his EAD. We just want one of them approved, don't care which one.
Just my vent for today..........

Thats just it...the way this place is set up the main walkway is behind me so everyone can see what I am doing mad.gif I don't mind working...just give me something to do
I've had jobs like that before......you'e glad to pick up the paycheck BUT there are a million other things you could be doing to "waste" your time. Can you ask for more things to do or volunteer to help someone out?
In fact I use Lotus and type on a typewriter for most projects helpsmilie.gif helpsmilie.gif I have tried little by little to revolutionize but they like it the way it is blink.gif

LOTUS?!?!? Ha, Ha, Ha.....I didn't even know that still existed laughing.gif Now, I really miss my typewriter (and have been missing it for the past eight years... wacko.gif)

I know at one time fathers name wasn't required but now they are. However, if it doesn't have it I think it should be ok. We got married at my sister-in-law church in Mandeville and we didnt' have to provide any documentation. Maybe you can bring the death cert so show why his name wasn't on the new birth cert. Just a thought.

Are you getting his passport renewed from the states? Andre's expires in 2009 and, thinking ahead, I am wondering if we can do this or if we have to do it while in JA

Yea it's not hard to obtain. Just make sure you do it as far in advance as possible. A friend of mines went down last month and applied for his passport three months ahead. She didn't get the passport in time so they gave her "emergency travel docs" and when she went to JA she picked up the passport to travel back b/c she was unable to travel on the emergency docs she had.

My AOS and EAD are going the same way mad.gif . No touches since it was transfered to CSC. Bert most likely will get his
green card and no EAD blink.gif . Just more extra money for the government without any kind of refund.

So is it even worth it to file for EAD? Although, if the changes are as they say, they may all be rolled into one, anyway.
