I used FEDEX and had packages held at Montego Bay Airport Office. It was extremely reliable and fast. I would highly recommend using it. We had no problems at all and everything arrived practically overnight. Well worth the $$$.

Hello All,
my name is Lee, I have started my visa journey. My fiance is in Montego Bay Jamaica. I don't know how I could have done it without all the information I found here—Venessia and i really appreciate it.

I mailed my K-1 petition on the 27th of March it was received on the and have already received my first Notice of Action, hopefully this is sign of good things to come.

I will be leaning on you guys with the experience to help guide me though the process and asking your forgiveness in advance to for anything stupid that I might ask. My heart goes out to everybody who are also missing their significant other—its heart-wrenching—it's really tough.

Thank you.

Good morning, everyone. So the consensus seems to be that all of the shipping companies are reliable. That's good, because he didn't get the DS230 that I mailed USPS. I have found that USPS is not that reliable on that end. I sent something priority once, it was supposed to get there in about a week, it took more like three.

Good morning, waynegeraldine and welcome.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but I believe that they can only deliver the package if the contents are all documents. Once you include non documents, your recipient may have to go claim it from Customs themselves.

I believe its on his CD Rebellion, but double check to make sure. And Damian, that is another story. I am usually not too "celebrity crazy" but that is one artist that I love with a passion. He did a few concerts in JA while I was there and I was sooo tempted to go, but then I remembered that I was married, and my husband wouldn't like me trying to kiss all over Damian and stuff. (He is a bit jealous of my obsession.) His lyrics are so real, he just keep it real, and I appreciate him as an artist. And when him and Steven get together they can really do some damage.

My hubby claims he has "connections ", and one day he will take me to meet Damian. Im like, whatever...

Who are you meeting? I'm thinking your hubby will be real jealous if you are trying to kiss her husband. You guys have me rolling today.

My husband's cousin is Jah Cure. I can't wait to get all up close and personal with him one day, probably this summer. No kissing involved though.

I like him too. But isn't he still in jail serving time for rape??? I think he has several more years to go.

He is. He is set to be released July 28th (my birthday, BTW). Rumor has it he will headline Sunsplash. And, as far as "serving" goes.......let's just say he has received quite a few amenities in prison most people would never see.

I know many Jamaican spending easter in the uS for the first time are a little surprised how low key this holiday is for most Americans. My wife was surprised that she had classes at the University today since it was good Friday. Jamaicans have a long weekend for Easter and Good Friday. The holiday starts today and does not end till Tuesday. My employers closed business for Good Friday for the first time this year, but it is almost like MLK birthday where it's like a floating holiday for most people. It would have been like my first day off in a long time and would have loved to spend it with her. I almost thought she would have cried when she had to go to school today. Especially since we had 80 degree weather last week snd wend down to 27 last ight. How are your Jamaican hubbies coping with being away from home for Easter?

Complaining of missing bun and cheese. Otherwise, he was cool.

Roy LOVES lamb....he would eat it every meal if he could!! When he got here all he wanted (or would eat) was chicken or fish.....it took him a while to realize that it's really expensive (and hard) to get good, fresh fish.....so, mostly chicken for him now. He will eat pork and sausage (and if this counts) he LOVES Hamburger Helper wacko.gif that's the only "beef" he will eat and not complain about.

Jamaicans have a thing about beef. Most do not seem to like it. Pork , fish, chicken. No beef. My wife and I always used to get into it when we go out to eat at restaurants. Take a Jamaican to a non Caribbean restaurant and there is going to be a problem cause they are not into experimenting. So she would go over the menu forever. And I would be sitting there hungry. Now as soon as I get to the restaurant and waiting to be seated, I get the menu and have her go over it. By the time we are seated, she has picked out the fish dish. I thought she would love Olive Garden. Never again. But Red lobster and cheesecake factory are ok to deal with.

Do you guys find it a challenge when you take your hubby out to eat at a Restaurant that does not serve Caribbean food? Tell me I am not the only one who wants to pull my hair out because they canot find anything on the menu.

Andre is pretty "adjustable" (his word, not mine). He's good about trying lots of different things and likes most of them.

His problem is sauces. As long as we get dressing, sauces, gravies, etc on the side, he is good.

Thank GOD that Craig loves ALL the food here. He's NOT picky....if he was, cheeeez to add onto all of the other stuff we've been through !!!!

Damien loves all food here too...not picky at all.

I've tried to be open minded about the food. I even tasted a piece of deer meat. Yuck! But to be honest, I am worried about being in the USA and changing from my relatively healthy diet of fish, chicken and greens to all the cholesterol-laden foods and becoming over-weight and more prone to things like heart disease.

I'm sorry, but a big old slab of medium rare, blood-oozing steak on my plate with eggs for breakfast on a sunday morning is a bit too much. Jay's feelings were hurt but in the end he understood. I miss my callaloo and saltfish with plantain (and or porridge) on a sunday morning.

Why can't you have those things anymore?

Andre makes that for me all the time. Thinking of some callaloo rice for dinner tonight.

And, regardless of if he has his license or not, things aren't going to change immediately. We have one car. I work 2 jobs and right now only one way coincides with my travel schedule. He has to take the bus one way each work day. When, we are in the car together, he is always driving. Getting his license would not effect his independence at this point at all. It's just a thing. Question so I know most people in JA have nicknames and we have discussed them before on here.

Wondering does your SO have a group of friends and they go by a specific name?

My hubbies group is KAOS for life they sometimes crack me up. They have their own symbol printed on shirts and necklaces. My husband was the first to get married out of the group and they said I was a member and can't wait to have a little one soon. These boys crack me up.they range from 19-25. luv.gif wacko.gif

"Death Wish".....they all have tattoos and the words Death Wish on their backs.

Funny thing is, these 8 hood wannabe's...........only Andre would jump at Rick's Cafe with me. The rest were too Chicken. Some gang!!!!!! They are one motley bunch, that is for sure.

Oh, okay, you mean USPS. Yeah, I didn't have a good experience with them the last time I sent something priority. I need it to get there within a week and I don't want to have to send it more than once.

Did you use the global envelopes? They have specific global envelopes and Dwain has always received my mail. I haved been using them for 6 years because it was the cheapest way. Sorry to hear that you had a problem with them. I used Fed Ex once it got there safe they were just to expensive for my budget.

I don't know that I did, it may have been just the regular priority mail envelope. I'll give them a try using the global envelope and if it doesn't get there by Monday I'll use one of the express services. Thanks. good.gif

Hey Jomo's Girl,

Sorry about your weekend.

Darling, If you can tell me where to get callaloo and saltfish in my neck of the woods (Vermont) I'd be your friend for life.

Come to think of it, anyone knows where I can get callaloo seeds? I'd happliy plant some in my tiny little piece of front yard and piss off the condo association.

...Mars.

laughing.gif Okay I thought my husband was the only one. Good they aren't the only wacko.gif group.
Most JA people I found won't jump from the cliff.

I remember I jumped 3 times in a row and then ended up in the hospital that was 9 1/2 years ago I was a crazy teenager. Ricks Cafe at least know they have a nice platform know not like the old days. So I understand why they were chicken.

Our weekend started out horribly. Andre flunked his first attempt at the driving test. Made a right turn on red at a no right turn on red interesection. Failed immediately. He was one big crab the rest of the day. After cussing him eventually, I couldn't wait to escape to work. He's better now. But, geez, you would've thought it was the end of the world. Between you and me.............told you he wasn't ready.

He shouldn't feel bad. The first time Bert went out the jackass told him to move the car to the driving test area. He back up past one car and pulled into the space. He flunked him right away saying he backed into a one way street.
Unfortunately Bert listened to me as I told him to do that. As he is saying he flunked someone is driving down that road that is supposedly a one way and he did not go chasing after him.
The second time we get the same crusty old guy and Bert goes through the entire road test and he flunks him again. Say he was going too fast (he drives like an old lady) and that when he pulled into an intersection that had 2 lanes of traffic he went into the wrong one. If someone sat there they could write up hundreds of people for doing the same thing. The third time was a charm. Different guy who say he was nervous and told him to relax. Talked about Jamaica and cracked a couple of jokes. Really nice guy. Bert passed. It is not like he hadn't driven, he had his Jamaican license for 17 years and he had been driving my car since he arrived.

We went to the Caribbean Festival -- I believe it was the end of June -- it's in Washington Park (right by the University of Chicago) -- that's where we saw Beenie Man. It was really nice -- they had a lot of restaurants there selling food and booths selling "crap." Worth going to if someone good is playing.

For Independence day in August they usually have entertainers as well. Also in Evanston at James Park

Does everyone here like bun and JA cheese. I have to be honest I am not a bun lover no0pb.gif . Am I the only one. My husband says I am so picky

I have to admit -- I do like it. Just had to go buy another one yesterday.....4lbs for $18.00....but it is really YUMMY!! ....and, it makes Roy really happy!!

I love bun and cheese!! When I'm in JA I would eat it all the time.

Love the cheese.

Okay -- talk to me about the cheese. We bought a "container" at the African store -- we already threw it away so I can't tell you who made it -- Roy HATED it. I had to go out and get "hard" cheese -- I bought a "brick" of Colby...... WHAT kind of "American" cheese can you compare the "Jamaican" cheese to. He said the Colby was just fine.....but I would love to get some more suggestions.

The cheese here tastes different as well. It's not fresh. I drove all over the place trying to get cheese on Sat and eventually went to the bakery. All the store sold out and the guy worked in the bakery just came up w/tins of cheese so he was selling at a high price, but it was worth every penny.

I didn't tell him I thought he wasn't ready. Are you crazy? It is better to let him learn that on his own.

One more piece of ID to collect.

Oh, I see. No, I didn't mean that you told him he wasn't ready, but failing the test proved it. I guess it's one more hurdle for him to get past, one more step closer to being fully integrated here.

Hello All,
my name is Lee, I have started my visa journey.

Thank you.

Welcome Waynegeraldine.

No that's incorrect. I sent my cousin a front lamp assembly for his car via FedEx. He picked it up at the office in MoBay b/c they couldn't locate the house. He got it a week later.

Don't feel bad about it Jax. Once he arrives he will tell you what he likes. I went to Capleton a few years ago and paid $45...never again!!! It wasn't worth it at all. Actually (in my opinion) a lot of these stage shows in Chicago are awful. When they bring my baby Movado then I will go until then I'm continuing listening to my CD's. whistling.gif
