I don't know if this is the right forum or not to ask this question, OK, we finally got our visa and bought our tickets to head back to the States from Nicaragua. We'll be going through the POE at Miami to clear customs. We arrive in Miami at 11:20 AM, our connecting flight leaves Miami at 1:10 PM, we'll have 1 hour and 50 minutes to clear customs and get to our gate, or almost 2 hours. How long does it take to bring your wife, no kids through customs at Miami POE? Anyone been through Miami POE lately? how long did it take you to go through the process? I might be cutting it too close, I didn't think about how long it would take to go through customs when I bought the tickets. Would they help out if you told them your flight is leaving soon? Anybody who can offer any help, I would really appreciate it

Took my husband less than an hour, but that was 5 years ago...

As is the situation with any POE it is wholly determined based on how many concurrent flights they are processing at the same time.... When you arrive and you are the only flight then things should proceed quickly... If you are one of 10 flights at the same time you are in for a bit of a wait.... I am not aware of any special processing for those who have tight connections......

Well I work for an airline that has a LOT of flights in and out of Miami, and it really depends on the time of day you are traveling and the day of the week, and if it is during a busy time. The waiting/paperwork took my husband and I an hour in immigration and we were there at a semi-busy time. I would say 1 hour and 50 is not enough time to make the flight to be honest. 50 minutes to collect your luggage, go through customs, go through recheck and get through the security checkpoing would really be pushing it. I scheduled the same amount of time, not knowing that we would be sitting in secondary for an hour, and we did not make our connection. Miami airport is complete chaos and a zoo 85 percent of the time. The checkpoint lines are long, the ticketing lines are long and the customs lines are long. Many times if you are moving to the U.S., not only do you have to spend extra time with immigration, but with the customs officials as well. I see many passengers that are mere vacationers and they do not make their connections with 1:45 scheduled mainly due to just the crowds. If you can, get the next flight to your final destination, which should, in most cases give you at least another hour. If it is longer, you can always go get a great cuban sandwich or plate of roast pork, rice and beans at the La Carreta cuban restaurant in the airport. It's pretty darn good, I stop in there whenever I am through Miami.
