Hi,guys we are going to have AOS interview in April and hopefully I will have approved soon. I had some difficulties with looking for a job while I was on F-1 student visa (EAD) and have been through many of turndowns. I know the main reason was I dont have GC. I came to grad school here and have a MS degree but it seemed to be so hard to find a decent job. I feel the employers in the U.S. care about work history more than education though....I only worked in the U.S. for a year and it was at school. Once I get approved, I am going to restart again but I dont know if I should take the low pay job (something easier to get) or be patient till I find a decent job( with good pay) ? Did you or your spouse have hard time getting a job ?

Many have had to take a lower paying job just to generate income. My husband has a degree in Network Admin and hasn't been able to find anything either, so he took a job that has nothing at all to do with his education. So far he really likes it and he can see himself having a future there. I guess it depends on if you *need* to work or not. If you don't, then maybe you could wait til something comes along that would allow you to make use of your education.

Career Builder and Monster.com are two good places to post your résumé and possibly generate some job leads. Best wishes on your job hunts! smile.gif

Most employers focus on experience first, education second. I suggest you start from the bottom up, start getting some experience in your field even if it's a low paying job, then eventually you'll start climbing up the ladder to where you'd like to be.

I have been working since I graduated from college in year 2000, and I didn't have any difficulties finding a job with my OPT. I got my H1B through my employer and I transfered my status to H1B from F-1. Although, I heard that U.S employers often take advantage of foreign worker's visa situation and language barrier and pay foreign worker less money. One of my firends who has a GC found out that his co-worker(who has a same job title) who is an american citizen makes 75K while he is making only 45K. When he found that out he was so shocked that he couldn't go back to work next day. He was so depressed that he took whole one week off from work and stayed home. When he returned to work after a week, he explained to his boss why he took off from work and that he thinks it is very unfare that he is being underpaid and he wants to quit. His boss got panicked since the company needed him so badly. They raised his salary to 80K, plus they gave him 60K bonus next day. I was really shocked when I heard this story....I don't want to believe, but this type of thing happens to many people.
