Hello,

My wife is on a K-1 visa from Russia. She now has received perminent resident status. Her 53 year old sister (she's single and lives in the Ukraine) wants to visit her in the US. Is this possible for her to obtain a tourest visa. My wife's daughter is also here in the US on a student visa. not that it makes any difference. In the Ukraine, my wifes sister owns a flat and has two daughters that live there.

Any help on this would be greatly appreacheated.

Usually, when the visiting person can show strong ties to return to their country, it's not much of a problem getting a visa for them. I'm not strongly knowledged in this area. But I'm sure there will more people who will come along and offer more information for you.

It depends on the CO and pretty much random luck. The applicant needs to show very strong ties to their country in order to receive a visa. Things such as bank accounts, property, employment letters, etc. BUT I have also seen cases where all these documents were provided and it didn't make one bit of difference, visas were denied.

Again, it's all about luck. yes.gif

You might find better luck in the "Bringing Family Members of Permanent Residents to America forum rather than K-1 forum.

I don't think it should be a problem since she is showing she owns property and has ties to her country.

I spoke to a russian co-worker of mine that entered the US on a tourist visa. She told me she showed that she owned a property and this was her tie to her homeland. She then filed political asylum when she got here but that's a different story wink.gif
