Hi,

I am permanent resident here, and know that I need to wait until I become a US Citizen if I wish to sponsor my parents and brother to live in the US. Does anyone know the timelines for UK citizens? My parents are both retired and my brother is in his 40's now. Would they even be eligible to be sponsored?

Also, would they be able to visit me here in the US whilst a petition was in process?

thanks so much

Here is the link for the latest visa bulletin. It looks like it is about 10 or 11 years for siblings. I was under the impression that an LPR could get a visa for the parents to come, at least for a visit.

It would take about 25 years for my wife to get one of her siblings here.

Hi Britty

First, my sister is a US citizen and applied for my I-130 back in 2004 and still waiting. What really gets me annoyed is when you go to check on what date they are processing it seems this visa for brother or sister then dates havent changed for the last 18 months so who knows how long this will take. I've asked my sister to get her senator involved and try and find out why this visa takes so long when other family visas dont, yes I understand about getting a visa number etc etc.

Yes they would be able to travel while this visa is being processed. I travel back and forth to the States at least 5 times a year and havent had any trouble.

Hope this help

Thanks Karen. I know that they can use the visa waiver programme to enter up to 90 days twice during any 12 month period, but its good to know that they can visit if a visa is processing. I think my brother especially, will have to just try and be patient when the time comes, as the wait seems very long.

I do hope you hear soon about your visa, and good luck.

They do not need a Visa.

Reality Check

What would your parents do about Medical Insurance?

Actually by the time your brother would get a visa he would probably be having similar issues.
